Tourists can skip this place as it could just be a pedestrian thoroughfare. Other better attractions nearby. Architectural piece though

A really lovely thing to see, the fairytale-like old town hall... especially when seen with or after all of the other wonderful buildings nearby.

The old town hall is amazing. The clock is as old as 500 years but its still operational. This is very well connected by public transport.

An interesting building to see at Marienplatz in the Old Town of Munich is Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) which is found at the eastern entrance of the square. This is the historic location of the Munich Town Hall from the early 14th century until it was replaced with the larger Neus Rathaus, which occupies the entire northern side of the square in the early 20th-century.

What you see here is a medieval style building which was constructed in the 1860s. The Old Town Hall had to be mostly rebuilt after suffering extensive WWII bombing damage. The exterior is now beautifully restored with lovely spires and a tower with clock face and Munich city coat of arms. The tower it seems formed part of the original city wall fortifications in the late 12th-century.

Today, Altes Rathaus serves as Spielzugmuseum (Toy Museum) and can be visited as part of your sightseeing endeavours around Marienplatz. Otherwise, have a brief look at the beautiful exterior and carry onward with other intended sightseeing plans you have in this area of the Old Town.

This is what makes up the town square in central Munich. I think the famous Glockenspiel plays at noon. Don't miss it! And don't leave before BOTH levels rotate! There is a "surprise" near the end (hint: keep your eye on the jousting knights).
Also - the building is amazing. Did you see the iron dragon making its way up the building?
Don't miss the restaurant inside - Rathskeller. It's like dining in a real castle and the food is awesome.

This is truley a beautifully designed and a marvelous example of the older Bavarian period, the stone work is lovely and its worth to be around on the hour when the clocks strike and all the figures in the clock tower start to move and turn around. It's wonderful to watch. No visit to Münich would be complete without a visit to the entire old town area.

Just a stone's throw from the Rathaus, the Old Town Hall is restored but is one of the most beautiful buildings in Munich in my opinion. Look for the Julia statue and windchime too
