The Mariensäule (column with virgin Mary) is point 0 of Bavaria´s road network, as all distances in the state are measured from there. Marienplatz is always crowded, especially during the Glockenspiel (clarion) of city hall (11 a.m., 5 p.m. and may be at other times during the season). Often you will find a stage set up for some event. Marienplatz... More

Lots going on but it reminds me of a hundred other places I've been in Europe. I guess if you took the time you could find some gem, but it just didn't seem worth the effort. Walk thru then move on.

No visit to Munich would be complete without a visit to Marienplatz. Great atmosphere and some lovely restaurants in the area. A must.

Had been to see Marienpltaz. Big structure. Right in the centre of the city. Witness the folk music in the doorsteps. Was raining that whole so was very cold on 9th August. Missed the clock dance.

Old world charm in this plaza. More shops and restaurants then I can mention. Several old churches in the plaza and within walking distance.

Beautiful buildings and restaurants. Very lively all the time. Great place to get transportation to and from any part of the city. Lots of options for travel at the snap of your finger or you can go it alone by public transport.

If you have multiple days to spend here, begin at the Marienplatz because it is a great starting off point for finding some other shops/restaurants/museums/churches that you may want to come back to. It is a very walkable area, and the... More
