We have been travelling for close to a month and taking a walking tour is part of our routine in a new city, you could say we have done a few. Matt was up there with one of the best tour guides we have had! He was funny, really informative and made a big effort to chat to everyone on the tour. I walked away having learnt quite a bit about Munich. Also, he brings his dog Rufus with him which immediately put the tour up there as one of the best.
Also, a note on Sandemans of all the walking tour/bar crawl companies out there Sandemans has been the most consistent in delivering quality tours. I am yet to have a bad experience.

We took a glimpse in the beautiful city of Munich with a great guide : Jax. We walked together and learned from him lots of interesting and also funny facts about Munich. The free walking tour from 10.45 was so enjoyable, that we decided to do the 3 hour 3rd Reich history walking tour with the same guide. We definitely recommend doing this tour and if you can choose, you should go with Jax, you will spend very nice time with him, and also see and learn a lot from him about the city. He is very attentive to the needs of the group (he always picked places in shadow for our stops, he also made a little break so we could refill out water bottles, go to the toilets, buy some food or ice-cream). He also has some awesome tips for restaurants, is very opened to questions and helps as much as he can with information. We totally recommend these tours :) ♥️

We went on the free walking tour of Munich with Thomas, our English speaking guide from NZ. It was very informative, well paced, and an ideal introduction to the city. Is was a bit tricky to find the free tour online as only paying tours keep appearing, but if you put sandemans free waking tour of Munich into Google it should take you there.
As well as the history of the buildings, statues and leaders of Munich, Thomas also had recommendations on places to eat and drink. We tried it one of the places for dinner and the food and beer was really good.
I would highly recommend going on this tour when you arrive in Munich and if you get Thomas, it will be even better.

I have no complaints about the tour itself. The guide was informative and it was a good introduction to the city.
I am not happy with the alleged pickup from my hostel. I am staying at Hostel 4 You and there are large posters in reception saying to meet in reception at 9:30am for the tour. I was there at 9:20, when there was no sign of anyone by 9:40 I asked at reception. After disappearing into an office the receptionist told me the tour guide would be there at 10:15.
I stayed by reception until 10:20, apart from a short visit to the toilet around 9:50. In all that time no one identified themselves as from Sandleman's or there for the tour. In fact only one woman entered who when I asked if she was the guide blanked me completely.
At 10:20 I asked again at the reception desk and was told I had just missed them. The receptionist pointed down the street and said "that group". The group in question being a couple with wheeled suitcases who I was not able to catch before they disappeared into the Hauptbahnhoff.
To reiterate. The poster said I would be met at reception. It did not say "one of our guides will walk past without stopping or identifying themselves".
I was able to make to make my own way to the meeting point at Marienplatz but could have done without the irritation. Please stop advertising that you will meet people at their accommodation as it isn't actually true.

Hello J599KOmatthewl,
Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor and for joining the tour of Munich. We really appreciate your feedback as it helps us to continue making improvements and ensure that tours and experiences promoted by SANDEMANs NEW Europe meet the high standards that travellers expect.
We were very concerned to read about your experience with the pick-up service we offer from the 4You Hostel. Our representatives go there on a daily basis and it is extremely rare that we receive any complaints about this service. Normally, our representative will be wearing red and a red name-badge and they usually ask the receptionist or the people they find at the lobby if anyone is interested or already waiting for the Free Tour pickup. We have shared your feedback with our local operations team, who confirmed we have not yet failed to deliver this pickup. We believe this was an unfortunate misunderstanding and we are sorry it had a negative impact on your overall experience. On the other hand, we are happy you enjoyed the tour and found it a good introduction to the city.
Thank you once more for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, and we’re sorry you weren’t able to join the pickup service in Munich. We hope to see you soon on other tours!
All the best,
The SANDEMANs Team

We did the English free walking tour of Munich with the tour guide Jake G. and had a amazing time. He was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained the entire time (little over 2 hours)
Would highly recommend.
I think the free tour concept whereas your guide seems to have to work a little harder to earn a good donation really adds some spice to the experience.
Loved it would do again .

After having taken a tour of Nürnberg’s old city with Chris Richardson a few years back, I consider myself and my family super lucky to have had him as a guide again for the free walking tour of Munich. Chris has an amazing gift for retelling history in a manner that is easily understood and interesting. His engaging manner and humor coupled with his extensive knowledge greatly enhance the experience of exploring both of these beautiful cities.

As my parents my baby and I join the tour on Saturday morning, we didnt expect to have so much h fun with such a great guide. Axel is a pationate guide that has a contagious enthusiasm for history and smart jokes. I myself lived in munich for 2 years... only until Saturday ive heard some of the most mind-blowing facts about the city history and got to discover it with different eyes.
As a plus, I must say he was extra patient with us and our crazy little toddler.
Please do yourself a favor and join the tour as you pray you are lucky enough to get Axel as your guide.

I have a feeling, that when dying I will look back at three events; my wedding, the birth of my first child and this free tour of Munich with Scott!
Jokes aside, Scott was a humoristic, knowledgeable and funny guide. The tour gave a very good overview of the old city of Munich, the history and the different curiosities of the city.
I give the tour, and Scott in particular, my warmest recommendations!

I did the 2 hour free (tip based) walking tour on Munich recently. It started at 10:45 and was about 2 hours. It was a good length as an introduction to the old town and some important historical periods of the city. I loved that the tour was arranged so we could hear a bit of history about Marienplatz (where the meeting point was) and then could watch the glockenspiel at 11am.
Our guide was Emanuela and she was extremely knowledgable and approachable if we had any questions. She shared lots of interesting and memorable facts that helped the city and its monuments come to life. I usually try to do a walking tour on my first day in a city, but I had already been in Munich 3 days prior to this tour (the one of the day I arrived was sold out online). Even though I had already walked by some of the buildings she discussed, I felt i got more in depth knowledge through the tour.
Our group was about 15 people or so. Since I was traveling solo it was a nice way to meet other travelers as well (I even ended up having lunch after with someone I met in the tour!).

i have made some free walking tours in Europe, but none can compare to this one, the "Munich Free Tour". Mark was the best guide i ever seen, he is informative, polite, passionate about what he is doing and answer all our questions promptly.
English is not my native language (i'm brazilian), but i have faced no problem to understand what he was saying, 'cause his pronounce is very good. He speaks firmly and have a good diction.
I will do recommend him and Sandemans New Munich to my friends and to all that want to know more about the history of Munich.

Hi! We would like to attend the Dachau tour but are worried because of the weather forecast. Does the tour take place if it's raining? Thank you
Written February 6, 2020
I’m afraid I’ve no idea. The tour guide does take umbrellas with them so I’m pretty certain it shall take place but I can’t say for sure. It’s always worth turning up tho! The tour was fantastic!

We want to go Thursday morning in English.

Ciao, è necessario/obbligatorio prenotare per il free walking tour???
Hello, do you need to/must book the free walking tour?
Written February 8, 2019

Hi, I was wondering roughly what time does the Dachau tour finish? I'm guessing it's around 2pm? Thanks for your help
Written November 24, 2018
Yes, As I recall, it was about that time. Their website calls it a 5-hr tour starting at 8:45 (at the Starbucks at the train station - arrive at Hauptbonhoff early to find the right Starbucks, upstairs near the tracks), which I would fit with that. It is worth taking this tour.

Quedo a tu disposición,
Roberto
