Well worth the hike up the mountain! (Actually about a 40-minute walk from the village.) If you're even a little out of shape (like me), give yourself plenty of time to get up the hill (and back down). Perhaps, even take the carriage or shuttle...More

This truly was a fairytale castle. I can see why so many cartoon classics had their castles based on this magnificent structure. We loved the walk up and the tour is a must. You cannot take pictures inside (cameras/phones not allowed to used) and they...More

If you are travelling to southern Germany make it your priority to visit this spectacular castle. It feels like you're in a fantasy world and it is extraordinary that it was possible to build something of this magnitude for its time.

A tourist must do! Seeing it in person is so much better than the pictures of this castle. The tour is pretty good, since the castle was never completed the tour only goes in about 5-6 rooms, but they are extravagant. The tour has some...More

If I remember correctly it is mostly paved with a bit of stone. It is all very walkable, though the path is steep up the mountain. We used the shuttle most of the way up, then walked the last section. We walked all the way... More
