Only from up high can you appreciate the beauty of the Alps. There is no better place then on top of the Zugspitze. The view of the mountains and valleys become a God painted picture for your appreciation.

Its very attractive mountain. Its a special place, its Bavaria, its symbol of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Alpspitze. Take the Alpspitze cable car from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then enjoy the view. You have to do it. Really nice sightseeing. Perfect for walking and trekking.

We drove to Garmisch only to find that the final 4 miles to the parking lot where you get the gondola would take one hour and seventeen minutes to drive to due to the huge number of cars lined up to get in. Also, as someone coming from Colorado where (particularly in Telluride) the gondola rides are free, it was a shock to find that it was 40 Euro apiece for a round trip to the top and back. I'm sure it's stunning at the top but I'll never know because I had no desire to be up there with mobs of people.…

We chose this over the Zugspitze as we wanted to hike more and it was recommended. We took the short gondola up, hiked to the top and then took the gondola down. The hike was steep in places, but we did it without problems (w/ sticks) and the views were great. 2 miles and 1000 ft elevation. The restaurant at the top had excellent Apple Strudel. …
