This is one of the most beautiful houses in OBERAMMERGAU. Ist socalled LÜFTLMALEREI - or translated more or less correctly its Fassade traditional paintings on the walls - is probably the most beautiful in the area of OBERAMMERGAU. This house is Currently occupied partially by the local Government, who in their endless wisdom demolished the old City hall in their... More

The Pilate House at Oberammergau is one of the best of the classic luftlmalerei houses (the outside walls are painted with fresco -- pigment applied to freshly laid moist plaster, so the pigment soaks into the plaster permanently) with trompe-l'oeil 3-Dimensional precision. The outside paintings show Jesus being presented to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Jerusalem, a key scene... More

This is just one of the famous houses of Oberammergau with its exterior frescos. The painting represents Jesus before Pilate. All the painted buildings are worth seeing; just stroll through the town.

Here you can see the famous woodworkers at their craft. Great pride in their work. Of course, the acclaimed painted exterior is what draws many people, but be sure to step inside.

There are not many places where you can enter and really get something without paying any admission. This is such a place. Here you can really see how they make all those little wooden figures. Also my children loved it.

The Pilatushaus is a must-go destination for visitors who like local hand-made items. They can watch artisans and craftsmen work their trades. A tip for families with children on a rainy day!

This is the place to visit to watch wood carving and other crafts men at work. Also possible to buy some of their lovely craft works.

The place is quite difficult to find because there is no obvious sign around. We missed it for twice! After entering the wooden house, an experienced and friendly old sculptor was there doing his work. Works are beautiful and special. But as a tourist spot, it is a bit disappointing due to its small scale.
