As with every tourist attraction in this area, be prepared for an enormous amount of fellow travellers if you visit later in the day. Plan ahead and check times and prices, bear in mind that there is quite a walk from the car parks to the boats and there is no shelter apart from the (expensive) souvenir shops and restaurants.... Königssee is as beautiful as advertised. Admittedly, it's a bit of a logistical hassle to get to, even staying in Berchtesgaden, but it was so worth the experience. We started the day by taking one of the DB Rregionalverkehr Oberbayern (RVO) buses from Berchtesgaden Hbf to the Königssee bus stop. These buses don't run very often, so one definitely needs... The Konigssee is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I've ever seen in my life. The electric boats glide quietly through the crystal clear water. The scenery is stunning. It's awesome to hear the echo of the trumpet played by the tour guide. We rode out to the gorgeous St. Bartholomew church. I recommend visiting in September when... More

Be prepared for lots of tourists. Try to come soon on weekends as parking spots tend to run out around 11am. Going up the Jennerbahn is very nice.

They only allow electric boats on this lake and there are not too many of them. The day we went there was a 2 hour wait to get a ride. We did not want to do that so we took a walk along the lake. The colour of the lake is a stunning blue/green. It is very picturesque with may... More

Konigsee in Bavaria is the third deepest German lake and is very close to the Austrian border. There are wonderful views to be had whether you are down at the lake or up in the mountains at places like 'The Eagles Nest'.

Konigsee was absolutely beautiful! This is a not to miss when in Berchtesgaden. Try to go on day when the weather is nice, unfortunately it was raining the day we went but we only had that day. It is still worth it even in the rain and was not sorry we went. We just made the best of it and... More

We love everything about this lake. Shönau Am Königssee is one of the best places I've ever been. Restaurants are available inside. Great place to chill and drink beer!

We visited at a quiet time. Berchtesgaden tends to be busiest in high summer and the ski season. However lake Königssee was still quite popular. The scenery is beautiful and a hike up to the glacier is easy and recommended (I don't think it will be there much longer!) try the fresh fish caught in the lake and, if your... More

We decided to take the boat ride to the Obersee and t was the best! St. Bartholome was a bit crowded but getting away from the church and th restaurant it is really nice to see. Take good walking shoes with you because there is the possibility to hike up to the ice chapel (takes about 40 minutes). But the... More
