We came around 10.30, and first made it Up in the 12 oclock tour. Due to the way it runs IT only has one wagon evey15 minutes. Despite corana IT is still crowed but it only takes 8 minutes and has wonderful views. Threre are om Sunny Days alot of people, but you can still go in your own om the trails more or less. At the alpe cottage you get nice simple food for a fair price. Meny places to sit om the trails.

The most wonderful experience we had on the new year's day in the Predigtstuhlbahn in Bad Reichenhall near Salzburg. Friendly people working there especially the nice lady at the tickets. We wish to all of them happy new year!

I discovered the Predigtstuhlbahn several years ago, and have gone back every year since then on my annual trip to Berchtesgaden over the Christmas holidays. It is very easily accessible by public transportation from Berchtesgaden. The trip up the mountain in the gondola is fun, and the panoramic views from the top are fantastic. There is a nice walk (not very difficult, and the path is plowed) to a small Gasthaus, which is a great place for drinking Gluehwein outside on a nice day (or inside on a not so nice one). There is a very nice upscale restaurant in the building where the Predigtstuhlbahn ends (the top of the mountain end), also with great panoramic views, and delicious food. The restaurant is not cheap, nor is the Predigtstuhlbahn itself, but both are well worth the money for the quality of the experience.

OK so its old but so what? It is expensive and very uncomfortable. Even off peak it is crowded so seeing out is difficult. The restaurant at the top is beautifully appointed but we had the most expensive, smallest bowl of soup we have ever had. A rip off

Had we been prepared for a 3.5 - 4 hour hike, the 49 euro pp would have been worth it. We were not provided with a map and the signage at the top was terrible (dangerous). On top of that we were given misinformation by grumpy staff at the top who directed us to what turned out to be the route down the mountain which was treacherous due to all the snow. We were happy to have grabbed free hiking poles. The restaurant at the top was expensive was worthwhile.

By the way, it was 29 euro pp in Oct 2018. We were packed into the gondola like sardines.

Despite it being mid-May, the snow was still in abundance at the top of the peak. Glorious views over Bad Reichenhall and surrounds.
The Predigstuhlbahn itself is steeped in history and is worth reading about.
Treat yourself to more breathtaking views while having a coffee or drink in the restaurant.

My wife and I had our doubts of going there, because we tought 26 Euros per person was steep. But the hotel owner recommended it 2 or 3 times. Finding a parking place was a bit difficult, but we managed to get one on the adjacent parking place. Waited perhaps 45 minutes in line. The experience was very nice. A super master work of engineering. Space was tight, but we managed to get a view while standing on the gondola. Once at the top, we walked around the mountain top. If you are going to be there, check before since this is the starting point for nice treks. Anyway we spent there perhaps 1 hour and returned. Overall a beautifull experience and well worth the 26 Euros per person. Would have been nicer to spend the whole day and go for a walk, starting at the top of the Predightstuhl. So if you like to walk and have the time, plan ahead and research . Think of the top as a starting point for a nice walk.

My son and I went here in August 2013 (not 2014) to take the cable car ride and have lunch at the top. The ticket room had numerous ads, pictures and even menus of the restaurant, which all looked quite nice. So we paid $25 each to ride to the top only to find that the restaurant was not only closed but in total disarray. Didn't appear as if it had been operating for years. In short, we had been taken. Other than the closed restaurant, there is nothing of interest at the top. Along with three workmen, several 2x4's, and buckets of tools, we took the next cable car back to the ground. Rather than complain and get the usual double talk about the restaurant not being owned by the cable car people we simply moved along. This was dishonesty at its worst. Too many other vantage points with similar views in Germany to waste your time and money on this one.

At €27 each, I was shocked by the price of a return trip (and this included a discount for presenting the Berchtesgaden voucher!) Once I'd picked myself up off the floor, we sat in the waiting room and admired the vintage advertising posters (think British Rail waiting room in the 1930s/40s).

We were lucky as we arrived quite late in the day so we only had to share the cabin with two other couples and the operator, meaning we all had plenty of room and the best views! It's surprisingly steep in places but it's an excellent opportunity to get a 360 degree view of the area.

Once we reached the top, we took a brief stroll to climb a little higher (walking sticks are available at no extra charge). We took the 17:00 return car which was the last journey of the day. Unfortunately this meant it was a lot more cramped with limited views. It was a little disappointing as the contractors who had been working at the top piled into this car with their equipment and blocked the view! I think a separate car should have been provided so as not to compromise the experience of paying customers.
