Following a fire in the previous residence (now called the “Old Castle”), this one was built in 1753. It contains especially extraordinary examples of gilded stucco on the walls and ceilings. Notes: * The Neue Residenz is protected by the Bavarian Department of State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes (Bayerische Verwaltung der staatlichen Schloesser, Gaerten und Seen); so it is included... The history of Bayreuth and the region, the cultural activities of the reigning aristocrats are well conveyed during an extensive visit. Much of course depends on the guide you have (the brief translations into English are not always perfect). Some of the rooms to visit are spectacular.

Beautiful palace, you can walk around by yourself, no pictures allowed. The Italian part of the palace is only available with the guided tours. We were able to join a English guided tour on Saturday at 2:15. ( not sure if they always offer English guides at that same day and time) All the information inside the palace is in... More

The Schloss is lovely, the massive wooden floors in The meeting room on the upper floor was just impressive! The silk draped walls are old but interesting . Amazing view of the Hofgarten from the Schloss.. Wilhelmine welcomes you!

This is a first class attractions. Unfortunately, the gallery of paintings is only available via a German language tour. Upstairs, however, one can visit the rooms that were partially designed by the famous Wilhelmine, the sister of the great Prussian Friedrich the Second. The impressive quality of art here is very close to the Sansouci palace in Potsdam. We spent... More

We visited the Old City ( a short stroll of about one hour), the Opera (unfortunately it was during renovation), the New Castle - all in Bayreuth (everything less than three hours). Not far away there is Hermitage Old Palace - very interesting (the visit is only with a tour - usually the tour is in German but the guide... More

I visited the Castle out of Season in November 2015. As I was practically the only visitor and enjoyed a private guide through it which was very in depth and most informative. Do not expect a huge castle but a very beautifully preserved residence with lots of history and nice interiors. The most impressive part is in my opinion not... More

The new casle and the Schloesschen showwell restored period rooms. Is visited with a guide, which is very interesting. The park is wonderful for a nice walk or an afternoon picknick.

The ticket seller didn't speak much English and seemed to be discouraging me from purchasing a ticket saying the park grounds were free. I bought a ticket and was handed a pamphlet in English (which had to be returned) which explained the purpose of the salons upstairs. I started to the left of the lobby where you purchase tickets. There... More
