Musical, food, leisure and swimming pool all in one place. Bit complicated to get to with public transport.

Usually we visit the SI before we attend a musical. The kids love it to take selfies because of the atmosphere and the decoration. We prefere to eat at the beer garden (self-service). The food is okay, affordable and plenty. We need nothing fancy since the musical tickets are already pretty expensive for a whole family.

The complex centers around two (German-language) musical theaters playing mostly American musicals. There is also a Maxx movie theater and the Schwaben Quellen spa complex.

Some of the best restaurants are gone, but there are still a few nice ones; I'd especially recommend the Bavarian-style beer restaurant in the tunnel between the two main buildings.

The tunnel used to feature a large saltwater aquarium and a few interesting stores; those are gone, unfortunately.

Another thing that is no longer is the New Year's fireworks; that might or might not come back in the future, and, if it does, it's well worth it.

This center is located well outside the center of Stuttgart, easily reached by public transportation but it takes about 20 minutes to get there. Basically it houses a musical center and a large hotel. There are also a bunch of bars, restaurants, cinemas and a spa here. But the décor is like a tacky parody of Las Vegas 40 years ago. Everything is expensive, kitschy, artificial and poorly laid out. I guess if going to a musical is your thing, then you might want to stop for a drink or bite to eat before or after but with the lack of atmosphere this is the last place in the region I would go for an afternoon or evening of entertainment. And while the musical is happening the rest of the complex is like a ghost town. The Schwaben Quelle Spa is rather nice with lots of plants and pools and saunas but at least double the price of any of the other great spas in the area. Unless one wants to see the musical, I see no reason to bother with this place.

At this place you will find Restaurants, Cinema, Theater, Musicals and Wellness just at one location. Prices are reasonable and during summer the beergarden is open.

This is a good one stop place to go, especially in bad weather. There is a cinema (showing films in German), various restaurants and bars (there is even an Irish Pub!), thermal spa landscape (but beware you need to go naked on most days) and this is where the Stuttgart musicals take place (currently Rebecca & Ich war noch niemals in New York - which will be superseded by Sister Act in December 2012). This is a good location because everything is under one roof, but I find it expensive compared to other locations in Stuttgart (e.g. for drinks, parking, etc.).
One thing to be careful of is when parking here: when you put your ticket into the machine before you go, the machine will automatically charge you the flat rate musical parking fee, but if you are only there for a short duration like cinema, then you need to press the button next to the screen to pay the lower parking fee. I found it a little confusing and ended up paying too much the first time I parked there.

You have probably never been to any place as relaxing and wonderful as the Schwabenquellen. It is truly and indoor getaway with rooms themed on different parts of the world. Live animals, flowing water- relaxing areas as well as swimming, spas of different temperatures and saunas from all over the world. Lovely fresh food is available from the in spa restaurant and you pay for all drinks and food with an electroinc bracelet that you are issued when you enter.

I'm not reviewing the SI-Center as a hotel as some other reviewers have done, because there are two hotels within the property, which are worth reviewing separately. I have no problem with the great staff at the Millennium Hotel who have made our long-term stay quite comfortable. I'm reviewing the SI-Center as an "attraction" or destination for tourists, in which case 3 stars is rather generous.

The SI-Center is a complex that includes two musical theaters, a modern movie theater, and many restaurants and a few bars along with a large spa and two hotels. There are also some very small shops. If you just want to see a musical or a movie (in German, of course) it's a convenient place to go, as it's right on the U-Bahn line, and you have a lot of options for food before or after the show, albeit none of the options are particularly good. The spa, "SchwabenQuellen" is more expensive than the mineral baths that are all around the area, but it's also themed really nicely and is a cool place to visit.

There's virtually no reason to come here otherwise, however. As a destination simply for food, clubbing, or shopping it leaves a lot to be desired. The best restaurant in terms of quality is the "Schlossturm" Brewhouse, which serves hearty Bavarian and Swabish food and good house-made beer in large quantities. However, there are tons of places to get good German food and beer in Stuttgart, and Schlossturm is not so great that I'd recommend making the trip specifically.

The "fancy" restaurant, Don Giovanni, has fancy prices but the food is just eh. The other restaurants are worse, though. The Irish Pub, "The Dublinner" seems popular, particularly with our fellow Americans, but the service is surly and the food is simply reheated frozen food. There's several better Irish pubs in Stuttgart proper, so again, no reason to make the trip. Ditto for "Die Weinstube" although the service there is at least attentive. My favorite bar is Intermezzo, which sometimes has an entertainingly cheesy piano guy singing American standards from the 30s-80s, and offers one of the better whiskey selections I've seen in Stuttgart so far.

There is also a "Phantom of the Opera" themed club only open on weekend nights. It's baffling. It seems very, very popular and sometimes charges a cover, but wasn't particularly cool. Again: there are tons of better options for clubbing that don't require a 25 minute U-Bahn ride, so why would people come here? Haven't figured it out yet.

The casino was incredibly boring, and it was somewhat insulting that they charge you a (small) fee to enter. All the slots are video, and there are some table games, but not a lot of excitement.

Yet despite this and the downright silly architecture, locals seem to really enjoy the SI-Center as they amble incredibly slowly through passageways, taking it all in. There might be some invisible cultural barrier preventing me from seeing what's so great about the SI-Center, because I'd much rather spend a night out on the town in Stuttgart-Mitte than hang around here.
