If you walk through this uncomfortable, ostentatious building, you can't stop shaking your head. But it's better not to shake it! Otherwise, your sunglasses will slip off your nose. But you definitely need them in an environment where the omnipresent, shrill white walls are literally screaming at you in every corner.
You won't find a comfortable place to read anywhere in the library, even though there is so much space available.
It seems that this building was built and equipped exclusively for an artist's ego, not for the people of the city. Unbelievable!
Young people are apparently not welcome either, and you won't find a youth department. Instead, teenagers are given a freezing cold trailer in front of the library, but no space on the almost ten floors of the gigantic building.
Apart from the friendly library staff, the colorful trailer in front of the building seems to be the only warm thing to discover about this library.

It is the opposite of a library: it has neither dust nor little light!
It is flooded with light and lindore.
The books are many, in different languages, the environment is soft : the entrance is a large cube with light filtering through spaces carved into the walls .. on the top floor there is a cafeteria, closed at that time . Unfortunately.
The top floor offers a 360-degree view of the city! I will return to the next trip!

Beautiful building with an immense collection of books.
Unfortunately the roof terrace was closed due to chance of thunderstorms, which was very unfortunate. Despite that, the visit remained worthwhile because the inside of the building is very imposing.

The Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart is a wonderful way to pass time. Could easily spend the entire day just sitting here reading a vast amount of books on a variety of subjects.
The inverted pyramid architecture on the reading rooms is a sight to see. Every section and floor were books in English, German, Italian and other languages.

I would love to have such a library in my own town. But with one person per elevator and only two slow elevators, this was a painful experience. Moreover, the terrace was closed for covid reasons - try to understand why one is not allowed to go outside?

This library is beautiful and very clean. You can find a large number of works. Be careful, however, a lot of stairs to climb because the elevator quickly fills up and you can wait several minutes.
The view from the roof is also splendid.

The Stuttgart City Library is architecturally very special and absolutely worth a visit!
Because of this, it is unfortunately somewhat misused as a photo location these days (and yes, I was part of that too). So you should definitely try to be quiet and not disturb the readers, and take the opportunity to look through the large selection of interesting books yourself. -Everyone will find something here😊👍🏻

Spectacular architecture by Eun Young Yi. You best take the elevator to the 8th floor and work your way downward. If you're there not only to look, enjoy a vast variety of books, e-services, and events; browse through the music library with its sound studio and its silent piano.
The roof terrace, however, is an arcitectural disaster. Save your time and take a coffee in the bar on the 8th floor instead.

I love libraries but not this one... It is a modern, cold, empty and lifeless building. One elevator serves the entire facility so one is better off taking the steps... up and up and up. Obviously, this is a very personal opinion; I think of libraries as a warm, cozy place and this one does not have that vibe.

The Public Library was beautiful and very efficient for everyone! This is a MUST SEE! Go up to the 8th floor and have a drink and snack and then go up to the rooftop terrace to view the city. When I say efficient, you drop off your books at a mechanical sorting and restocking system. Anyone interested in the world needs to see this in person!

Is there a parking space around the library?

Do I need to book to take 30 people to visit the Library and see the architecture - visit planned for first thing on a Saturday morning? Thank you.
Written December 14, 2018
I agree. With that many people, I think letting the library know would be a good idea.

The library has not a own car park. You can park in the car park from Milaneo (Shopping hall). Parking here is not free. If I remember correctly per hour € 2,50. it is not really cheap 😉

Hi! Sounds like a place we would love to visit. Do they have Mystery and Thriller books in English for sale i.e used books? I don't think I would have time to rent/borrow them and return in time. Thanks.
Written November 13, 2017
They do have English books in different categories; unfortunately not for sale. However, you will find a log of bookstores in Germany. You can easily find the books you want.

I believe there isn't a gift shop, but check out the café shop on the top level :)

Hi,
I would like to know about tour programs. Is there any tour which held in English? If yes, which days and what time? I also want to know that registration is required or not in advance. Is there any entrance fee or not?
One more thing that I would like to know, is there any audio tour that people can go during opening hours and visit the library?
Written May 8, 2015
Hi, welcome to Stuttgart!
You can borrow audio guides, available free of charge from the information desk on the ground floor, which give you details about using the library, and information about its architecture.
Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Check the English website for details, search for "stadtbibliothek stuttgart"
No entrance fee.
Visit the roof terrace!
Enjoy!
