In summary, the musical was more like a very elaborate school theater performance, where at the end you donate some money for the next class trip. Unfortunately, despite the huge anticipation, this musical was a huge disappointment. 2.5 hours of waiting for the end and all for incredibly overpriced prices. As a big Disney fan who really enjoyed watching/listening to the Tarzan film and the music, I had to admit after the performance that it had nothing to do with Disney feelings.

Here is a list of the many negative and few positive things:

Positive:
- the actors of the main characters Tarzan (Terence van der Loo / and Jane (Vajen van der Bosch) were really good. Good voices, clean acting.
- the costumes looked really good.
- the swinging monkeys were nice to look at, but this weakens after the 50th time.

Negative:
- catastrophic implementation of Tarzan. It had almost nothing to do with the film. For example, some characters simply do not appear at all (e.g. the elephant Tantor or Jane's father). The latter was probably too expensive for the producers to implement. The plot is also completely changed permanently (Tarzan and his mother are banished; Clayton does not want to sell gorillas at the end but kidnaps Tarzan as an attraction and Tarzan does not die but is arrested by the other sailors (his evil allies in the film). Simply abysmal.
- some actors (including unfortunately the young Tarzan, although he was played well, They really only sing out of tune and badly, you don't want to listen to them)

- the actors' voices were much too quiet, but the electronic music was deafeningly loud. There was hardly any live singing either, only the main actors sang themselves, the rest was played as a playback and so loud that you could hardly hear anything else,
- the stage design was almost the same throughout, but it was sometimes carelessly done and the lighting effects were not very convincing. At the end a screen was hung up as a sunset, which was completely covered in black spots. Simply sad.

- €130 for a ticket, with a good view, but for a piece that has so much potential, but was implemented with absolutely no love.

Spend your money on something else.

We went to the musical Tarzan on Saturday, February 11th. It was my Christmas present to our two grown-up daughters, expensive seats, and we were really looking forward to it, as it was being touted as the "most spectacular musical of our time". We had also watched a few films beforehand that showed the spectacle: lianas, gorillas flying through the air, colorful butterflies, Tarzan, etc.

Shortly before the performance, the theater manager came on stage and said that there were problems, there were no flights, but don't worry, it would still be great.

Well, it was deadly boring. It was like Top Gun being played without a single flight. Everything took place on the floor, you had the feeling that there was only one choreography for the dancers, the stage design was unloving, the highlight was that the actors moved to the lower auditorium several times, so that we in the more expensive seats couldn't see anything at all. There was no sign of enthusiasm, the girl on one side of us sat on the floor the whole time after the break, on the other side the seats remained empty after the break. I had to yawn so often in the last half hour that I cried.
I hope that no one who was watching me thought I was crying with emotion, because there were hardly any emotional moments.
Therefore: 360 euros for a lame show is quite steep.
When we contacted them, they said: "We are sorry that there were technical problems during the show," and they wanted to give us a voucher for a 30% discount on the next show as compensation. That's fine. But we're not going to take it, because it takes us six hours to get there and back. And who can guarantee that there won't be "technical problems" next time?
No thanks, never again.

Unfortunately very boring, my husband fell asleep and I almost fell asleep too.
Very emotionless and long-winded.

Up until now I have always really enjoyed every musical and I can easily be made to cry, especially at Disney, but it is quite rare that I almost fall asleep, unfortunately we cannot recommend it to anyone.

Nevertheless a bonus star for the actors' performance in the acrobatics.

I went to the Sunday evening performance with my daughter. The theater director gave us a brief advance notice about technical problems and slightly changed scenes to be on the safe side. Unfortunately, there was nothing to see that makes the musical special (I've already seen it), no lianas with acrobatics on the stage. It was extremely boring. Compensation in the form of a voucher or something similar would have been the least they could have done. It's a disgrace to charge so much money for this. I'm totally disappointed!!!!

We saw the musical in 2013 and loved it then.
But now you have to put up with off-key singing, acoustically incomprehensible dialogue (too strong a Dutch accent), stiff dialogue and fails from the stage crew. But the tickets are simply too expensive for the performance, the quality absolutely does not match the price.
The ensemble, on the other hand, did an excellent job and clearly enjoyed their performance.

Why are there so many weak reviews here? Perhaps people are no longer used to switching off for three hours without a smartphone or remote control? The musical has always had a little length for me. But that was it. My daughter (10) really liked it, so did I. And a very well-attended hall on a muggy Sunday night as well. Since we sat in the middle on the outside, the price called for it with family discount also fit.

That was the worst musical we've ever seen.

We were so looking forward to it and were so disappointed.

The songs were hard to understand, the stage design and plot were rather boring.

The only highlight was the flying scenes... but it was absolutely not worth €170.

There was no spark at all. The hall wasn't even half full and that was on a Saturday evening. That says it all.

When I think of The Lion King in Hamburg... that was soooo great!!

Unfortunately we didn't read the reviews beforehand. You can't always rely on them... but with so much negative criticism we would have thought about it again.

Unbelievable! After numerous stage musicals and a few other productions, such a disappointment! The first half drags on like chewing gum - the story only finally picks up SOME speed after the break!

The monkey costumes look like brushes from the car wash! The make-up was also disappointing.

The only thing that is impressive in general is the rope choreography, a real unique selling point and also some great effects in the stage decoration (the scene with the plants is also beautiful).

But unfortunately it is NOT touching at all and has no reverberation whatsoever. Even the music wasn't as likely to be a hit as expected...

Never seen such a long-winded stage musical! Pure disappointment☹️

The musical was great. We really liked the lighting effects, the singing and the music. Only the service leaves much to be desired. You're standing in a line at the bar waiting for your turn and then suddenly the man just says he's going away now. Someone else is coming. Five minutes later, his colleague tells us to get in line with her. That was so unkind. He's been working really slow anyway. He should have said that earlier. Then we would have lined up directly with the colleague. Please work on the service. But the musical itself was really great.

I have already seen the musical Tarzan three times before, twice in Hamburg and most recently in 2016 in Stuttgart. I was enthusiastic and enchanted by the whole production each time. Unfortunately, my fourth visit was very sobering, the actors' voices were very bad and off-key and mostly incomprehensible. Unfortunately, the story was also changed. Jane's father is now suddenly dead...
And a lot of other things, which is a shame. Because why do you have to change an old story? The acrobatics were great and a big compliment to the crew.
