This is a large square shaped public square in the historic centre of Stuttgart. It is centred by the 19th-century Jubilee Column and two ornamental fountains. You'll find a historic Music Pavilion along with several other monuments around the square.
During our December visit there was a large ferris wheel setup in front the New Castle. The square is also one of several that host annual events and festivals including the charming Stuttgart Christmas Market. We found the scene here quite enjoyable.
In addition to the normal stalls setup selling gluhwein and seasonal foods, there was a very large Christmas Tree, two floor Christmas pyramid, large scale ground level train sets, making for an entertaining scene for those spending time in the city this time of the year.

It is a beautiful place with a lot of people and a couple of nice restaurants around, however, we were a bit terrified by the many-many weird-looking people that were sitting/laying around on the grass or right below the statues. They rather seemed like gangs looking for people to mug. Despite this feeling (no atrocities!), we liked the place.

The square, in the middle of Stuttgart's center, divides Stuttgart's pedestrian zone with all its shops, restaurants and cafés. In addition to leisurely walks and shopping, a place for a short break.
Beautifully laid out with the green areas, fountains, music pavilion ... the new castle and the old castle ... special events such as open-air concerts or live broadcasts take place again and again.
Not to be overlooked or avoided, is in the pedestrian zone with many sights around it, or nearby - and definetly worth to visit

Never again will I go to the Jazz Open Stuttgart on Schlossplatz. A ticket cost €120 for just 60 minutes with the selected star. Every normal concert lasts over 90 minutes, that's a rip-off, never again.
To all concert lovers, complain, otherwise nothing will change.

The palace square, or castle square, is the beating heart of the city of Stuttgart. The space is almost entirely occupied by a public garden which, being practically flanked by Konigstrasse, the main shopping street, is always very busy and lively. The eighteenth-century Palazzo Nuovo forms the backdrop to the square, while from the side you can observe the sixteenth-century and much more characteristic Castello Vecchio. Among the decorations of the square we note the very high Jubilee Column, the two twin fountains that flank it and a small music pavilion. A pleasant and well-kept space which, however, is very poorly lit in the evening.

3-Star Review: Neglected Lighting Dulls Stuttgart’s Main Square
I recently stopped in Stuttgart to explore the main square and was left a bit underwhelmed. The fountains were beautifully lit, but the surrounding buildings barely had any lighting, which took away from the overall ambiance. Key structures around the square were hard to appreciate in the dark, and there was minimal information available for visitors. I was lucky to catch an art show at the nearby gallery, which helped make up for the experience, but the lack of proper lighting around such a central attraction was disappointing.

Great that European football but because Stuttgart is a playing city that has consequences.
For example, at the end of June this beautiful square is the Fanzone and you do not see any of it. It is surrounded by fences and security guards and that even on the day that no football is played.
Half the center is a kind of construction pit and fortress because of the European Championship. Too bad.

The square is very nice during the day, but after 5 p.m. you can forget about it. The people walking around there are terrible. A Christmas market is not acceptable. 5.80 euros for a disgusting, horrible bratwurst, no thanks. Let them shit on you.

Beautiful park filled with monuments, fountains, magnolia trees and an outdoor mall. People spend time sitting in the open spaces, taking in the beauty of the park, eating, laughing and playing. I felt so safe and it was wonderful to see people enjoying themselves without fear.

The square is centrally located in the city center. As a result, it is in the middle of the hustle and bustle and very crowded. I also found the square very dirty. There is garbage and homeless people everywhere - similar to the Zeil in Frankfurt. In summer, the fountain is definitely an eye-catcher.

I this the best place to be for New Year's Eve for tourists? Two speak german, two do not. What is the best area to stay in for convenience to location?
Written December 26, 2014
Schlossplatz is the centre of everything that happens in Stuttgart central and at New Year Eve it is the place to be. The surrounding buildings add to the atmosphere and the nearby hill give depth to the view. Where to stay depends upon your budget but wherever you stay you will get a warm welcome at a reasonable price.
