About
The world's very first television tower is to be found in Stuttgart. For more than 60 years now the 217-metre-high tower has defied wind and weather. When building commenced, many of Stuttgart's inhabitants were doubtful as to whether the first ever tower to be constructed from reinforced concrete would hold. After a construction period lasting 20 months, the Stuttgart Television Tower was inaugurated on 5th February 1956. It became a prototype that was imitated and refined all over the world – from Frankfurt and Dortmund to Johannesburg and Wuhan in China.

- lowryeppEpping, United Kingdom938 contributionsLiterally a highlight of the trip for us. Helpful notes follow :Firstly check the weather - avoid if cloudy or foggy etc. To reach it - metro / trams / buses from centre. Buy a return. Sit on the right going up for views. Goes through a prosperous area of town. Get out at the mintransport hub, named Fernseturm, amazingly Now the sign posted route is through carpark, along 2 roads, then a woodsie path 20 minutes. OR take the diagonal path through the trees from the station (signed "may be muddy"). Not if you have your best white stilettos on! This route seems like only 5 minutes. Book in advance online at busy times, or buy in shop. Not cheap, but worth it. Fantastic views from open terraces at top. Also cafe, may need to queue. Fair on quality & price. Restaurant in same place has very limited hours. Returning, take whatever comes first, tickets are interchangeable.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 31, 2023
- MerrowmumGuildford, United Kingdom1,389 contributionsA little piece of history with great views! My husband and I were surprised to discover that the world’s first TV tower was built in Stuttgart. It’s a pleasant U-bahn trip from the centre of the city and then a flat 5-10 minute walk through woods to reach the tower. The views from the viewing platform, even on a slightly cloudy December day, were gorgeous - we could still see quite some way in all directions. We liked the information panels telling you where other cities both in Germany and elsewhere were on the higher level.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 20, 2023
- NNWSLARRYNewport News, Virginia654 contributionsA great view of the city and the surrounding areaI wanted to get some pictures from the top of the tower and the views were amazing. We got there at dusk and later you could see the fireworks from the beer festive, which were beautiful. Unfortunately once I got to the top I remember I do not like heights and I wished the tower had a wider base. If you like heights this is a great place to get views of the city.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 23, 2024

We visited the tower with the Stuttgart Card. Above, beautiful views of the city, the Swabian Country and the Black Forest. It is very windy there. Restaurant was disappointing because there was apparently a large group, so all tables were still full of empty pints and bottles. It takes a while to queue at the lifts. The tower is located outside the city in a bios-rich area and close to Stuttgart's old football stadium.

I climbed this tower with my girlfriend on a trip to Stuttgart. The property is located outside the city centre and can be easily reached by public transport by stopping at Ruhbank and walking a path for five minutes in a grove. Outside there are dining options and a children's playground. Inside there is a dedicated gift shop and entrance fees. With the elevator you can get to the top in no time where there is also a panoramic bar. From here you can see all the cities in the surroundings. Thanks to the bas-reliefs on the railings you can find your way around geographically. At the top there are machines to create the souvenir coin while the souvenir note is sold at the entrance. A must-see place in Stuttgart.

A very interesting and unusual place! We got to the tower in the rain, but the views were still very captivating. Entrance to the tower is paid: adults - 10.5 €, children over 6 years old - 5.5 €, children under 5 years old - free.

The café and restaurant are closed on Wednesdays! You take the elevator 150 m, look around, and then you take the elevator down again. We have done Riga, Seattle, Dubai, Berlin, and a few more towers. It was probably the thing to do in 195x, but today... well... at least this one has a shop with a few nice t-shirts.

I arrived an hour before sunset. Having arrived in the motorhome as directed from park4night. Drank a few beers and had a very nice meal. In a great setting. Clean friendly. Plus got to scope out the motorhome location from a birds eye-view over a few hours. Certainly looks a good night stop thus far. If the traffic eventually calms down. Surrounded by forrest areas ideal for dog walking as well

Really great, with a student discount. If you go there when the doors open in the morning, you don't have to queue.
I wish I had known beforehand that you could make a reservation for brunch in the cafe. Unfortunately, we had already eaten.

The most unfriendly condition in Stuttgart. The lady more or less threw my family and me out. The reason for this was that I sat down at the table before she could clean it. According to the waitress, there were cameras everywhere and her boss would scold her if she let customers sit at overturned tables. I have never been thrown out of a seat in such an unfriendly manner. It's a shame

Very similar experience to the TV tower in Berlin except that one is better. Joke (mostly). Yes it’s okay but the trouble is you’re still in Stuttgart. The admission fee is reasonable and the cafe is ok, once you eventually get served.

Hello how much is entry to go up the tower? thank you
Written September 15, 2016
It was 7 Euros for adults. Young kids are free up to age 16. We were with a large group and I believe they got a good discount. It's very much worth the visit and cost. Enjoy and look forward to the elevator ride UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
