This Art Deco building is today too small for the huge collection of the museum. They build a new wing to the museum, and today you can visit and see the most important paintings of the collection.

Unfortunately this place is under construction right now. Nevertheless you can see a limited exhibition. It is doubtful whether the new modern part of the museum will fit the surrounding area (Wasserturm and the entire Jugendstil-complex)... actually very sad to "ruin" this picturesque area.

Worth spending an hour or two , very close to the city center and immediately by the water tower " Wassertrum ". A ticket is 9€ per adult. Most of the paintings are modern 1800 onwards , and many were from private collections. There is only one painting that I've noticed for Van Gogh , however the collection has a... More

Kunsthalle Mannheim has paintings by Bacon, Manet, Cézanne, van Gogh, Liebermann and Slevogt. It is a pleasant museum with lockers for backpacks next to the toilets in the basement. Temporary exhibits do not permit photography, but within the permanent collection the use of cameras without tripods or flash are acceptable. The ticket offices were in temporary trailers outside during October,... More

The new Kunsthalle is an example of egocentric view of culture exhibit. A man wants to leave his mark on the city, a woman wants her name on the walls forever. And money cleans everything away. Let's see if they will respect the promises.

The Kunsthalle may be in the midst of major and lengthy building work, but there's still plenty to see. In the Kirchner exhibtion you get twice the number of paintings you normally would, because the artist used both sides of the canvas. A great show - full of life. Also on display, were some terrific works from the permanent collection,... More

The marble entrance hall to the gallery is gorgeous, there's a range of work in the permanent collection although some of the hanging seemed a little crowded and with little German, we couldn't follow all the explanation cards. We enjoyed the current exhibitions, particularly Franz Bernhard, a local artist who was a new discovery for us.

One must trapse around 'the back' in order to see the most excellent current Dix/ Beckman show...but this is no bummer! Its a knockout! Turns out, THIS was the original gallery--original entrance! and very fine Germanic boldness it has too...all in Mannheim red stone! The interior galleries show little of what might have been original (floors / doors unchanged?)..but comfortable... More
