This nice square creates the hub for the city walking tour, interesting in every direction. The space is accented by the Holy Ghost Church, decorated by the fountain and lined by various stores and restaurants. Not the most charming or impressive German Markt but certainly lovely and pleasant.

First time since covid hat I have visited Heidelburg Christmas market. This is the fourth visit overall. Always been a magical Christmas event filled with crafts and beautiful Christmas things. Sadly not this time, 90% of the stalls are food and drink, even though it is traditional food, the magic of the stalls selling anything else was quite hard to find.

The market place is very lively and the Church of the Holy spirit is the main attraction. There are lots of restaurants and souvenir shop.

The famous and legendary Heidelberg student kiss chocolate can also be found here and not to be missed.

This market square is the centre of old Heidelberg. It's a typical square with a mix of houses, a church, town hall and other buildings surrounding it. It can get quite busy because of the restaurants and meandering tourists.

Market Square is dominated by the Church of the Holy Ghost on one side and the Town Hall on the other. Lots of nice restaurants and shops are located here. It's a very vibrant area of the Old Town.

This is the main and one of the oldest city squares and truly represents a heart of the Old Town Heidelberg.
Marktplatz is surrounded by the buildings on the north and the south and on the west side of the square, there is the Church of the Holy Spirit (Heiliggeistkirche), which dominates the square and dates back to XVI century. On the east side of the square, there is Town Hall (Rathaus), which dates back to 1703 and in the middle of the square, there is Hercules Fountain (Herkulesbrunnen), which was erected between 1705 and 1706.
The square is packed by numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and there are even two hotels Zum Ritter St. Georg and Goldener Falke.
The place was used as a parking lot until the end of the seventies, when the complete square and surrounding street Hauptstraße was transformed to the pedestrian zone.
Nowadays, from the late November to the late December, the square is a home to one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets in Germany.
Do not miss.

This area is vibrant and energetic. We enjoyed walking through the shops and people watching. Would recommend finding a nice café to have a coffee and just relax.

This place in the heart of the old town is really large and beautiful. The buildings around give this place a romantic mood. Unfortunately it's also the heart of tourism in this big touristic town in Germany... So it loose a bit the local charm with touristic shops.
To take a drink is perfect at the return of the castle ! And some streets around are better to feel the town mood.

We wandered into the Market square and found an assortment of fresh vegetables , fruits and a variety of meats and fish products for sale. This was not untypical of the open markets found in the US however the biggest difference was that many of the prepared foods were offered and a seating area was available for you to consume them. Well worth a visit if you are in Wiesbaden in the summer.
