huge variety of items to purchase. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobbles! Sandals may not be the best choice on these hard stones.

This square has a wonderful view of the castle. It is picturesque with the Madonna fountain and lovely German buildings typically found in many other town squares.

Walked through here many times during our four days in Heidelberg. Found our favourite cafe/bakery here, Cafe Gundel. Most delicious pastries we found anywhere in Germany! Had brunch one morning on the Cafe Gundel patio (quiche & salad), which offers a view of the markt, as well as Schloss looming over the Altstadt from high up on the hill.

This beautiful little square is just around 100 metres to the east from the main city square, Marktplatz.
It dates back to XVI century and it's located on the site of the former Holy Spirit Hospital and hospital cemetry, which was demolished.
The first name it was used for the place was Neuer Markt, but later the name Kornmarkt prevailed.
On a pedestal in the middle of the square there is Kormarkt Madonna fountain sculpture, which dates back to 1718.
The place represents start point to the famous Bergbahn, which will take you to the Schloss Heidelberg.

A great market this year. Reminder of years gone by. Great food and gluhwein - some of the best in the country. Even on a rainy evening it was loads of fun.

Beautiful Castle & Fabulous tram experience

According to the Heidelberg tourist office's "History and Facts" page, the city's history (or prehistory) goes back approximately 600,000 years to the "Heidelberg Man," the earliest human fossil in Europe. The Celts built a fortress in the area around 500 B.C., and the Romans showed up shortly after the time of Christ."

Since World War II, Heidelberg has grown into a modern university, technology, and business city of 140,000 people, many of them living and working in new districts outside the historic Altstadt or Old Town.

The first parts of the castle were constructed around 1300, but it wasn’t before Prince Elector Ruprecht III (1398 – 1410) that the castle was used as a regal residence.

Well worth the trip, cos us 28 pounds for 2 adukts & 2 children to Gatwick.

Breathtakingly now beautifull city!!

You have a very nice view of the castle over here, and can also be admired from the castle himself. It is the first Markt on Haupstrasse as you come from the Altstadt S-Bahnhof.

A fine square around the corner from Marktplatz. some handsome buildings, great views of the castle and a statue/fountain resplendent with the Madonna. Another great place for an aperol spritz of an evening!

This is a nice and small square with a Madonna statue in its middle. On one side, facing the statue, the citizen centre/town hall, with beautiful flowers all along its facade and side.
