While this is a small christmas market it has a good size skating rink. Was great to see all ages enjoy themselves. Has all the offers of larger markets except for the terrific view of the Heidelberg Schloss at night. Enjoyed a mulled wine and bratwurst while soaking in the sights, sounds and smells of the market.

A small square surrounded by medieval era buildings with cobblestoned street and a fountain in the centre. A short description of how I felt this place is. It was a quick walk-by during our walking tour through the city. Nice, but nothing special.

Another one central city square offers some extraordinary views to the Heidelberg Castle.
It is located just about 170 metres eastwards from the main city square, Marktplatz.
The square bares a name of the famous Grand Duke Karl Friedrich of Baden. It dates back to 1803 and it was built on the site of the demolished Franciscan monastery, Barfüsserklosters.
This lovely square, beside castle view, offers some fine architectural examples from the XVIII century, like Heidelberg Academy of Science, Palais Boisseree and House Roßhirt.
Also, you can find here two of the oldest student bars in the city, Zum Seppl and Zum Roten Ochsen.
Worth a visit.

The Carl's Square is a wonderful setting in which to have a splendid meal at an outside restaurant location.

This is a lovely square with a good view of the castle, old buildings surrounding it and peaceful atmosphere. You can access it from Hauptstrasse. We ate our lunch on Karlsplatz.

All the squares in Heidelberg are nice and all appear off the main street that runs through the centre. The Christmas markets took over them all which made it very festive with all the lights shining down.

Not certain how one can review a Platz. It has the largest parking lot underneath that is close to the Altstadt. It has a great view of the Schloss above. North and South are grand University and Civic buildings. Just down the street are the Studentenkneipen. And in the middle is a lovely fountain by the Berlin sculptor Schoenholtz, depicting the globe, birth and death, and humanity.
Worth at least a glance, and if you look maybe you'll consider our place in the world.

Not only is this an attractive and interesting square, it's also the square that you can catch the Cabriobus, a fun and interesting city bus tour for 11 euros. The square is at the end of HauptstraBe, the most interesting pedestrian walkway.

Just a few minutes of walk from the main hub of activities, town hall in front of the old university building and a view of the castle in the background. Also there is a place where the writer Goethe stayed, now science university.
