    Spectacular Architecture
The Munster is an enormous cathedral that took over 300 years to build from 1200 to 1530. It has a 750 year old three ton bell and 71 gargoyles. The exterior is spectacular with the lace work on the spire and the interior has beautiful stained glass windows. The location is just wonderful with historic buildings, shops, restaurants, wine bars, and an open market where a variety of items are sold ~ fresh produce, cheese, cooked sausages, tofu, fries, wooden artisan goods, ceramics, flowers, toys, etc....A MUST SEE!!!

    A survivor of devastation
The Frieberg cathedral is a beautiful example of gothic architecture in the center of old town. It has stood for centuries and was the only buildings left standing after the allied bombings of WWII. A must see if you’re in the area!!

    Must see cathedral in Freiburg
Stunning cathedral, HUGE, right in the town square. We went on a Saturday and there was a full market going on -- people selling food, crafts, meats, fruits. Festive...really special place.

I don't understand German very well
I don't understand German very well

but, The toilets in this place are made of wood.... in 2024 ! wtf .... they really don't care about tourists!
Moreover they are very cramped. There's a small wooden grille between them at eye level when you're seated, which eliminates any privacy. And the cherry on the cake is... No toilet paper!
And when you get out of the toilet, the priest shoutings at you in German in a very aggressive and totally gratuitous way.... I guess you had to pay. A real tourist trap!

The stained glass windows in the church are spectacular. The colors are so vivid. It has four pipe organs. The organist can play from all four pipe organs. We were fortunate to have an opportunity to listen to the organist practice. Make sure to pay the €4, per adult, to walk behind the alter. It is worth the views.

The “Freiburg Minster” or “Freiburger Münster or Münster Unserer Lieben Frau“ is the cathedral of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. The last Duke of Zähringen had started the building of the cathedral around the year 1200 and this in the Romanesque Style”. The construction was continued in the year 1230 but changed into the “Gothic style”. The minster was partly built on the foundations of an original church that had been there from the beginning of Freiburg, in the year 1120.
In the Middle Ages, Freiburg layed in the “Diocese of Komstanz”. But in the year 1827, Freiburg Minster became the seat of the newly erected “Catholic Archdiocese of Freiburg” and so his Cathedral.
Nice but a bit dark on the inside.

Nice cathedral to visit with lovely stained glass windows and decorated domed ceiling. Large bronze sculpture of the Last Supper, especially impressive. 5 euro to take 250 odd steps up the Bell tower for good 360 degree view over the city and surrounds. Really old, unique bell in the Belfrey to see as well.

Outstanding cathedral in the center of Freiburg! My wife and I came here to go to the Christmas market, but they had been cancelled the day before due to COIVD. As a result, we had more time for a walking tour and longer to spend time in this historic building. We happened to be there on 27 Nov 22, which was the 78th anniversary of the bombing of Freiburg. The cathedral survived the bombing virtually unscathed while most of the city including other churches were leveled. The stained glass windows were removed to protect them. The workers of Freiburg donated money for the windows and have their trademark as an image. There is one for bakers, masons, and leather workers to name a few. Like other great European cathedrals, this one is well worth visiting.

This is an amazing Minster with some wonderful gargoyles on the outside.
We weren't able to go in as we only arrived in Freiburg after 7pm. However, you can get a good sense of this wonderful building and grab some great selfies with a walk around the outside during the evening - its a wonderful building.

The Münster is a very impressive example of Gothic architecture with its distinctive tower, built with the red stone of the Black Forest. From the inside you can visit the entrance portal with the beautiful sculptures, as usual in Gothic cathedrals, but in this case beautifully painted in many colors. Amazing details. Almost not visible from the outside because of a fence. Inside, the stained glass creates the heavenly atmosphere as intended.

Huge Gothic cathedral that dominates the city of Freiburg. The cathedral dates back to the 13th century and has a fantastic 116-meter tall tower, often considered one of the most beautiful in the world. The tower is the only Gothic church tower in Germany that was fully completed in the Middle Ages (1330), and has lasted intact until the present. Amazingly, the tower survived the WWII bombing of 1944. The church has incredible stained glass windows with interesting inclusions like socks, scissors, pretzels, etc. to relate to people's professions. Inside, there are massive old wooden donation boxes, reinforced with iron bands, with huge locks. There also also four sets of organ pipes including some that are absolutely massive.

Wonderful cathedral, one of the best in Europe to my taste, very well taken care of. Restored in the last years, trying to retrieve the mild coloring of statues and reliefs that was supposedly their original state. Everything is clean, well organized. Peaceful atmosphere that invites to prayer, if you are a religious person, or to reflection, if you are not. Free entrance (I hate the very idea of selling tickets to enter a place of worship). Attending a solemn mass there is a beautiful experience. There is (between Easter and Christmas) free entrance to a short organ concert (11:30 to 11:55) every saturday. Surrounded by many nice resturants and shops.

Beautiful stonework crowned with a magnificent tower, it’s a beacon. Extant after about 800 years, it has a multitude of fascinating features. Including a great Panoply of Saintliness around the entrance.

Inside is to gaze at the Gothic at its most striking. Slender columns ascent to the ribbed ceiling, light hued against the darker ribs.

Standing to admire the expansive nave is awe inspiring. All the way to the striking altar area with its impressive centrepiece backed by fabulous stone carvings and colourful holy images.

Very beautiful cathedral with a porch which deserves attention (418 painted stone statues). The stained glass windows are splendid. Some of them include the coats of arms of the donating corporations (13th and 14th century). Also worth seeing is a Gothic pulpit where the sculptor depicted himself (possibly for the children to look for) as well as the altarpiece created in 1516 by the Strasbourg resident Hans Baldung. Possible to climb to the top of the tower to admire the views of Fribourg, the Schlossberg and the Vosges (for an entrance fee).
