Nice Bachle

This a nice attraction in all the streets from the old part of the town. It gives a particular touch to the visit, just be careful not to brake any ankle..

the Bächle makes Freiburg special, great to dip your feet on a hot summer s day - and it does get hot in southern Germany...

That's one of the honorary guilds at Fasnet - the festival at the beginning of Lent. These old streamlets grace the gutters of the old town. Never seen anything like it anywhere. To say that the city is clean would be an understatement. You'll see kids playing in the water on hot days. The water isn't potable, of course, but... More

The small streams you see all over town are unique and meander 15 km through the entire city of Freiburg. The water actually comes from the 29 km long Dreisam River. It originates from the 13th C. and basically served as a water supply as well as a way to help fight fires. I must admit that I was initially... More

We enjoyed following along with the Bachle around the city. The teens were even amused by it! Learned a little history about it as well! Neat and different. Glad they kept this around! Nice to see something not every other city has!

I was not sure if they were just for looks or what, but I saw many people dipping their feet in during the heat if the day. Kids love playing in them.

What a delight these water channels are pop up all over Alstad. There was many a time my poor hot feet would have taken delight to be soaked in the cool clear running water. Watching children pulling along their boats was delightful, groups of teenagers gathered with their feet in and heads together chatting as they do. Loved them.

Very cool system of waterways ... Kids enjoyed playing in it, with it and along side it. Walking through the city, makes it easier for the kids.

This is a very refreshing aspect of the city - they just allow (former?) brooks to still run through town. This can be very refreshing during hot days - and a real nuisance if you step into one, like Johnny Look-in-the-Air. Tradition says, that -as a bachelor- you than have to marry a local girl ;-) So, be aware of... More
