Wonderful Walk through History
May 2020 • Friends
Kloster Hirsau was closed during our visit, however the outdoor areas were still accessible and offered a wonderful walk through history. The ruins are great to explore and quite picturesque.

There’s no admission charge to visit the grounds and free parking is available nearby.

A speaking place

Ruins of one of the most important Benedictine abbeys in Germany. The chapel was erected in late 8th century. Baden-Wurttemberg. Some centuries later it is a centre of Cluniac Reforms (Hirsau Reforms). A great place for science and culture. Unfortunately, as a result of fighting between people who believed in the same God, but in a different ways, the place was tore down. The ruins are now secured and give an idea of the past. The local museum complements our knowledge of the past. Great cafee on site.

Family Reunion
Jun 2019 • Family
Our family has been coming here for many years for our Talmon family reunion. And for years now we have truly enjoyed the hospitality and service of the staff. The have it together to host weddings and many organized group events. I would highly recommend them.

Beautiful and full of history
Oct 2018 • Solo
Living just around the corner, I have seen the abbey and castle in all seasons and its always worth a trip. Recently I've done the tour which are held on saturdays and learned about the glorious history. Recommend doing the tour when you are around. Otherwise just take a walk around, bring a picnic with you or enjoy a cup of coffee at the small cafe at the abbey.

Ruins full of history
Sep 2018 • Friends
This singular place is located in Hirsau, a small town a few kilometres from Calw, the birth town of Herman Hesse. Surrounded by a beautiful and quiet scenery, this is a enclosed complex of various buildings, some of them still in use, some of them in ruins, as most of it was destroyed in 1692 and not rebuilt later. That´s a shame, because when you get here you feel that this must have been much more than what you see nowadays. Anyway, it´s worth lingering here on a calm visit, because all the place is very scenic, and has a taste of old grandeur. You can get some great photos here: enormous walls, cloisters, paths, even though the tower is closed -or so it was that day- and there´s a part which seems to be used now as an open air auditorium.

We stayed here for two nights last weekend. It was fab! Realky nice rooms, nice staff, great breakfast.
The owners very kindly left some beautiful wine in our room, as we had been joking about only water in the minibar. Really really nice people.
