Even though it is a bit crowded, politeness should NOT be an option. Remember that tourists are the source of your living. Moreover prices are excessive as regards the quality or food. Finally you can only pay by cash... Wonder why 🤔😂. In a word: clients : just go away !

An entrance to the Schwarzwald National Park so there was lots of people here on a weekday in September before German schools started back up. There are several large parking lots that include bus parking and RV parking. There was also overflow parking on the dirt lot just below the edge of the hill, you can see it from the end of the parking area. There is at least one restaurant and food counter. There are two excellent souvenir shops (might be owned by the same concessioner). There are also picnic tables near the shops and there are hikes but we just had a quick beer to see what all the fuss was about. A good place to stop for clean restrooms, stretch the legs, have a snack, and get a souvenir but there are prettier places to see the Black Forest.

Mummelsee can be reached by the Baden Baden public transport bus no 245 which starts from Augustaplatz. The journey takes about 45 minutes and drops you right next to the lake. The sight is amazing and a trek around the lake should not be missed. Choose from the restaurant upstairs (a little expensive) and the take away counters downstairs. The latter offers excellent value and the food quality is great. Don't miss a paddleboat ride - it is free and unsupervised. You can get off the bs midway and trek down for a while. The bus frequency is hourly, so that is something which ness o be planned for.

Getting there was super simple - bus 245 from the Augustaplatz. Make sure you get one which says mummelsee on the front (the same number goes back the other way to the train station - bahnhof). It runs roughly hourly on sunday / public holidays.

Sit on the right side of the bus for the best view! It takes about 55 minutes either way. Bit of a winding road for the travellers sensitive to this but you can get off along the way for rest stops.

The mummelsee itself is a little small, but it was perfect for us (we didn't want to go hiking so the flat 15 minute walk around the edge was fine for us). Its a good spot for those who want to see and be in the black forest without too much effort and time to spare. I can imagine many tourists in high season as it was busy in early november.

There's one restaurant (about €30 for two Burgers and soft drinks). Some shopping for the souvenirs.

There's also little paddle boats for the adventurous. Water looked freezing cold though!

I thoroughly enjoyed our visit as some one who has always wanted to see the black forest but only had a day to visit it.

Recommend for a visit! Probably can spend an hour or two there but it's quite small so unless you're doing the trails and walking tracks that's more than enough.

The tourist moloch down at the parking space is gruesome for all who ar not into the "Original Black Forest Cuckoo Clock" kitsch, but as soon as you move away from that, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking scenery.
Hiking up to the top of the Hornisgrinde (~1160 m above sea level) is worth the effort, the paths are well-kept and the view from the top is amazing. There also is a "Hochmoor" on the flat part of the mountain top, a rare natural phenomenon which can be accessed over wooden paths. If you're lucky, you'll get to see some very rare animals there.
So escape from the cuckoo clocks and get some real Black Forest experience! :D

Well I'm coming from Finland, country which has over 130 000 lakes.... So to me, Mummelsee it's just a pond. But people who live country which doesn't have lot
of lakes it's cool thing. But I think it's overrated place.

I went walking in the Black Forest for a whole week. Took the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (which an absolute must ride route) and then stopped at this lake. I saw many lakes in the Black Forest and it's my opinion this one is the ugliest of them all. Typical disgusting tourist place, very crowded, expensive and just not worth it. Youngsters (as myself) should avoid this place!!!

Have to mention the area is great for taking hikes (away from the lake).

Not worth the stop except if you need to use the bathroom. Really touristy, the
lake is the size of a pond. Takes about 15 minutes max to walk around & totally uninteresting. That being said... they have 2-3 paddle boats & the trail can accommodate wheelchairs.
Lots of food available for purchase.

Going to Baden-Baden black forest is really easy. We travelled from Karlsruhe to the highest point of Black Forest (Hornisgrinde) through the beautiful road of Schwarzwaldhochstraße . The route was as follows:
1. Take TagRegio RegioPlus ticket for 19.1 euros – It is valid for 7 Waben (states) and it is valid for 5 persons.
2. Take RE train from Karlsruhe Hbf to Baden-Baden Hbf. Alternatively you can also travel in the tram that you can get from the Karlsruhe HBF (just outside the HBF there are many trams going). Your RegioPlus ticket is valid for this, so you do not have to incur extra cost.
3. Once you get down at Baden-Baden Hbf (Train Station), take the bus 245 from Baden-Baden Hbf. You can get the bus outside the Baden-Baden Hbf. Only weekends, generally there is one bus per hour. Again you don’t need to buy the separate ticket.
4. If you want, you can buy something to eat or drink from the Baden-Baden Hbf as there is no market or shop at Hornisgrinde (highest point of black forest). Be prepared that it would be more cold at the top, so take appropriate clothing with you.
5. The bus 245 will drop you at Mummelsee where there is a Lake Mummelsee and you can travel to the top Hornisgrinde. Also, you can have a good walk around the Lake Mummelsee.
6. When you come back, you have to pay 1 Euro per person (I don’t know why) in the bus but that is really cheap.
7. I recommend to reach their in morning before 12 pm, if you want to spend some time and enjoy.

A rather small lake in the mountains of Northern Black Forest which is not that scenic but rather commercial with the Berghotel and shops and lots of tourists. One can walk around the lake or rent a boat to paddle around. Or you can get a coffee and some snacks from the hotel food outlet and just laze around to enjoy the mountain air. There are plenty of tables and benches for your relaxation but if you are lucky enough, get a seat at the small open air pavilion that extends from shore by a walkway and sit right on the lake. Lake Mummelsee like Black Forest have been mystified with lots of tales like the King of Mummelsee and his nymphs lived in this lake and only come out during the night.
