This is the namesake for the Grand Duchy of Baden and the city of Baden-Baden. The castle is now a ruin, but it's quite picturesque, and there is a cafe in front of it (closed in winter, unfortunately for us). Great views of Baden-Baden, surrounding parts of the Black Forest, and the Vosges mountains in Alsace. Some amazing rock formations,... More

We stopped here on our way to Strasbourg from Heidelberg. So glad we did. Very interesting, the worlds largest wind harp is there. Great hiking trails around castle

We were lucky with the weather, it was such a beautiful day for hiking. At the beginning we got lost in the Black Forests but then we made it to the Ruins. The view from the top of the castle was just amazing. It will take your breaths away. Worth a visit.

Long and steep walk up to the castle, although the forest scenery is quite pleasant. The castle ruins at the top of the climb are beautiful and quite charming to go round and visit.

We got lost in the Black Forest while trying to find this place !!! We eventually did and it was the most amazing reward after a 2 hour hike. The views are spectacular and the castle itself is a real beauty! Great place to fillup 4gb worth of photos 😂😂😂

Amazing castle ruins that overlooks Baden Baden and in the distance you can see France. Walk through the courtyard and hear the wind chime through the wind harp which puts off an eerie but beautiful sound. Walk to the top of the castle and take in breathtaking views of Germany and over the mountain ridge, you can see France. Most... More

We took a hike from the top of merkur mountain round to this place and had a wonderful walk especially as we are keen birdwatchers. The castle is in a pretty amazing location and the views from the top are incredible, not great if you have vertigo. When we visited there was no visitor centre or cafe, it was all... More

Went with a one year old. Free to go in. Leave pushchairs at the bottom of ruins and use a sling/carrier. Lots of open stair cases in side. Amazing views. No cafe/restaurant/vending machine so take supplies! Definitely worth a trip for an hour or so.

Love wandering ruins. This one has many levels to explore and a fantastic view from the top! Only a few other people were there with us and we enjoyed wandering around. It is free along with free parking. Nice place to visit for as long or as short as you want.

This place only took about 10 mins drive outside the baden baden itself. Parking is just exactly in front of the castle. It's free entrance and not so busy. The view from above was so nice. We were happy that we went here.
