We stopped in Vienne for lunch and to break our journey to Provence; with 2 small boys (4 and 6 yrs old) we were looking for something which would interest them and also enable them to run around to use up some surplus energy. This fascinating museum and archeological site provided both - and a superb (and enormous) lunch (order... More

This is a nice little museum, with one floor of mostly reconstructed mosaics with a second floor balcony to see them from above. There are also a few displays of roman jars, etc and a couple of ruins indoors. Outdoors is the remains of a roman village with streets, a few remaining pillars, house foundations, baths etc. plus a small... More

We visited this museum as an unexpected part of a river cruise. I had researched and knew I wanted to visit, expecting on our own. The only negative was that the visit was short, limited to inside the museum with no tour of the grounds. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful tour, great guide (thru the ship), fascinating view of ancient... More

This museum was one of the highlights of our trip through southern France. The mosaics are outstanding and worth the trip alone, but there is much more. Excellent reconstructions of Roman life scenes based on the surrounding ruins. Not very crowded which allowed for close up viewing. Latin teachers should know about this place.

If you've enjoyed visiting the Antique museum in Lyon and you're on your way to the Orange Coliseum smaller replica, stop for a few hours in Vienne and vsit the museum on the other side of the Rhône River, (just drive or better walk across the bridge) The mosaics are fantastic!!!

We had a rushed visit. Didn't have time to go around the interior of the museum. Spent all the time outside. The audio guide brought the place alive. After what seemed a very short couple of hours the grounds were closed and we had to leave. However, the whole family enjoyed the visit and if we re-visit Vienne we will... More

Innovative architectural space which recreates the atmosphere of the roman town of 2000 years ago. We were fortunate to arrive on a day when admission was free, but we would have happily paid the normal admission cost. We were well informed and as non-French speakers we found the audio guides very helpful. We had a moment of anxiety when we... More

This unique museum gives a beautiful insight in the ancient roman life of Vienne. It combines local archaeological findings with beautiful models and the outside garden with the excavations. Inside is a beautiful exhibition with lots of artifacts, models and floor mosaics. The outside garden contains remains of an ancient roman city. It wasn't difficult to empathize walking through the... More

This museum built on its archaeological site is really well designed. All the exhibitions are arranged according to its geographical location and direction. The ticket 4€ for adult, 2.50€ for student including the multi-language audio guide is very affordable. All the information, presentations, models are very educational. Well worthwhile to spend a half day here.
