Crossing the river to view this museum was the highlight of our side-trip from Lyon to Vienne. There are many very well preserved mosaics, including one in the upper gallery which is exceptionally detailed and seems almost like a real carpet. The scale model of the site as it is believed to have looked was the most accomplished architectural model... More

Outstanding modern museum displaying locally found items from the Romans with an emphasis on mosaics from the wealthy households prevalent in the river city 2000 years ago. The inside exhibition features wonderful scale models to show where the items on display came from. The condition of the mosaics here is about the best we've ever seen. The outdoor exhibit has... The museum, located on the banks of the Rhone river, is great will plenty genuine and beautiful mosaics, statues, items and so on... but the greatest thing is the possibility to wander in the streets of the ancient and magnificent Roman city of Vienna. Try to have a real guide than the audio-guide.

Great museum with lots of items and mosaics from the excavations. Nothing is hidden behind glass, you get very close to the exhibits which is great. The outside areas leave you free to wander the roman streets and excavated buildings with free audio guides and boards explaining the functions of each building. We went on a Sunday morning and were... More

We stopped in Vienne for lunch and to break our journey to Provence; with 2 small boys (4 and 6 yrs old) we were looking for something which would interest them and also enable them to run around to use up some surplus energy. This fascinating museum and archeological site provided both - and a superb (and enormous) lunch (order... More

This is a nice little museum, with one floor of mostly reconstructed mosaics with a second floor balcony to see them from above. There are also a few displays of roman jars, etc and a couple of ruins indoors. Outdoors is the remains of a roman village with streets, a few remaining pillars, house foundations, baths etc. plus a small... More

We visited this museum as an unexpected part of a river cruise. I had researched and knew I wanted to visit, expecting on our own. The only negative was that the visit was short, limited to inside the museum with no tour of the grounds. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful tour, great guide (thru the ship), fascinating view of ancient... More

This museum was one of the highlights of our trip through southern France. The mosaics are outstanding and worth the trip alone, but there is much more. Excellent reconstructions of Roman life scenes based on the surrounding ruins. Not very crowded which allowed for close up viewing. Latin teachers should know about this place.

If you've enjoyed visiting the Antique museum in Lyon and you're on your way to the Orange Coliseum smaller replica, stop for a few hours in Vienne and vsit the museum on the other side of the Rhône River, (just drive or better walk across the bridge) The mosaics are fantastic!!!
