Excellent regional museum with amazing contents! No elevator though???? A lovely young man with perfect English can answer all your questions!! This museum deserves and needs patronising and a lot of money from the French government to display its wonderful contents! What a regional gem! 15-16C Dutch collection is excellent if you are an art historian; go and see the medieval spectacles on bald monk in the end room (full of 12-12-13-14 century Christian items;) African Masks; Egyptian articfacts; I went twice and could go again and again! Love this place! Its Roannes best tourist attraction! Promote this to Australaian and New Zealnders - we have nothing like this! Its fantastic! So may awesome paintings in one place! Wish you could stay here! Great place to do do a scholarship research orresearch an art paper for a journal or periodical. Very quiet. Charming!

If you are a fan of proto-European artifacts this is your place. Mr. Dechellette's collections of antiquity from the local area are quite impressive. I enjoyed the exhibition of paintings and ceramics from the local area, but don't know much about the artist, Puy, whose work is featured prominently in the exhibition. With the Loire tourism pass, the entry fee of 2,70 Euros was very reasonable even though there were no temporary art exhibitions on display due to school holidays. If you are travelling with kids, they might enjoy the small collection of Egyptian artifacts which include among other things one mummified cat and one mummified dog.
