I picked up a leaflet from my hotel offering a free silk scarf if you spent over 50€ So I bought a selection of scarves, one of which was free. There is a loom at the back of the shop which you can take a look at and the owner and his son are very happy to explain about the weaving techniques in French and English!

Before going to Lyon I had read about their rich silk history and was pleasantly surprised to see there was a local shop that still had their silk weaving in house. When you walk in the front room is the shop where there are amazing silk scarves for sale. Then back behind the counter is the workshop, stepping over the threshold is like stepping back in time. It was an amazing tribute to the city's history. The silk weaver was there and you could tell the pride he had in the amazing products he was selling. A must see in Lyon.

We stumbled upon this silk weaving manufactory by chance. It is located in the St. Georges district in old Lyon and what a discovery, this was. Lyons´ few remaining silk weavers are here at work, still. It is a family business with a long tradition, we were told. Most beautiful silk scarves at reasonable prices to buy, and I got quite a few. You can visit the manufactory and it is worthwhile!
