We had the pleasure of spending the day with Lucy a few summers ago (early fall, really). What a treat! The intimate 6-person group learned about French favorites, shopped the market in Lyon for veggies, meat, cheese, and more, learning all the while from Lucy about the intricacies of French cuisine and the French love of and dedication to seasonal cooking. In the kitchen, we made course after course (we still indulge in radis beurre at home!) and learned some great cooking tricks.

As seasoned cooks ourselves, but also with less experienced folks in class, Lucy was able to tailor the experience to a variety of skill levels. Gathering around the dinner table at the end of the day with all of our handiwork was a perfect way to conclude.

We highly recommend this experience when you are in Lyon!

My daughter and I were reminiscing of our trip to Lyon in November 2018 and the wonderful day we spent visiting the markets, hearing about the history of the city and then cooking a menu we would later try at home. Lucy made it all effortless and I think of our visit every time I make fresh mayonnaise with a fork in a few minutes, (it saves washing up and is quite relaxing when you are in a rhythm) she welcomed us into a well equipped kitchen, we worked with other interesting people and enjoyed a wonderful meal in her homely dining room. We also got great recommendations on places to eat out for the rest of our visit.

I have attended Plum Lyon classes several times, I have recommended friends to attend and I have gifted classes. Lucy is a class act and most professional with tons of passion! She gives more than she gets by sharing her knowledge and expertise. During one of my visits to Lyon, Lucy spent the day after the course to show me more of the culinary scene of Lyon, visiting culinary supplies and ingredient shops. We must support small businesses, the true flavor of a city through these global challenging times. I can’t wait to return to Plum Lyon!

My return visit to Plum Lyon Kitchen, 3 years after my first class, did not let me down. Both the visit to the market in the morning, with all of the narrative detail that Lucy provided during our walk to & from, as well as the cooking class later in the day were so much fun. Highlight of the recipes cooked were the Fricasee de Pintarde (guineau hen) and cherry claufouti. I absolutely will return again on my next trip to Lyon. Thank you so much Lucy!

This class was excellent. We got a little culinary history on our walk to the market, plus some tips on getting quality items once there. After the market experience, we made a lunch/charcuterie of our purchases with a bit of lovely cremant.
The meal we made was fabulous, one of my favorites in my whole time in France. Plus the teachers turns server and makes sure you have a great dining experience, multiple wines included with the meal.
Overall I learned some good techniques of classic French cooking, and learned the specifics on a good dish, side, and dessert. We also learned some key techniques of French cooking. Most important, I feel confident I can recreate the dish we made in class after I return home.
Overall I highly recommend taking this class if you are in Lyon and looking to add some culinary skills in the culinary capital of France.

What a fabulous experience, wandering the Crois Rousse Markets in Lyon, buying the freshest produce then cooking them in Plum’s fabulous kitchen under the expert guidance of Chef Lucy. The day far exceeded my expectations...the food delicious, recipes well constructed, kitchen facilities spotless and the end of the day dining experience, was the “icing on the cake”.

I took a class with Lucy last autumn. It was a birthday present from my husband. What a treat it was!
I am a passionate cook and I enjoyed every second of it!
Lucy is passionate about Lyon, food and people and despite the fact that I am actually French, I learnt so much!

We were a lovely group from various backgrounds and nationalities (Australian, US, Danish) and we all felt at ease from the start.

I warmly recommend this cooking class, the visit of the market, the lovely food in a relaxed and fun atmosphere ! One of the best I had....and I have had many in the past!

I was there on Friday, April 22, 2022.
I really enjoyed the whole day at Lucy Vanel cooking school. The place is really well equipped and beautifully set.
This was a full experience, starting with a visit to the local market, planning the menu with what was available, cooking the 4-course dinner, and finally enjoying a fine meal with Lucy's selected wines.
All this in a great kitchen and a lovely dining room.
And Lucy is a very good teacher, with extensive knowledge and the talent to pass it to her pupils.

We learned all about French history, history of French cuisine, how to choose the best ingredients, how to cook an amazing meal. Truly the highlight of our vacation in France. We have taken many cooking classes while travelling but this was the best. We spent the day with Lucy in her lovely French home learning authentic, yet simple techniques to master the art of French cooking. Not only that, it was so much fun being with Lucy. She chooses only the best quality ingredients; shopping at the markets. She even bought the meat she used from a butcher who chooses the cows he purchases directly from the farm!! Don't miss this winner; you will not regret it and you will leave full.

The perfect way to experience the history and joys of Lyon cuisine! Our family of four adults spent the day at Plum Lyon's first Market Table Tuesday class of the 2023 season. In fact, Lucy was so gracious that she opened the school a week early when I sent her an inquiry! (That is commitment!!)

Our day started with brief introductions and a fun walk UP to the marketplace, a huge open air market, where Lucy and the four of us examined the offerings and opted for the freshest of ingredients. On the way to the market, Lucy stopped periodically to give us a very informative chronology of French cuisine, particularly Lyonnaise. SUPER INTERESTING! On our way back from the market, we stopped at a few specialty shops to get our last ingredients, then off to the kitchen!

For the next six hours, we prepped, cooked, and ate. And then repeated! It was cooking heaven! For my family, we are all novice wannabe chefs, and we learned so much, had a lot of fun, and never took it too seriously. We enjoyed every minute!

And, the food!! Oh the food!! Braised rabbit with onion confit and mashed potatoes! Cheeses and local sausages, fennel salad, and apple tatin! All made to perfection. We toasted a wonderful day, had a wonderful meal and savored it all!

Lucy is a perfect instructor and a fun friend for the day! One day we will be back for some baking classes!
