You can wander through the hidden walkways leading from one house (apartment block) to another moving from street to street, or just enter these hidden courtyards with wonderful staircases and walkways.

Great idea to take the guided tour of the Traboules!! Included in depth, informative tour of St Jean Cathedral. Wonderful to understand architecture of Lyon as well as history. 12E at Tourist Office. Wonderful English speaking French guide. Absolutely recommend.

We visited several traboules as part of a walking tour and were made aware of their usefulness in times past.

You owe it to yourself to explore at least one of the traboules of only to experience what they actually are. One walk down a traboule us all you need to understand their importance in history.

The Traboules are a great way to see how the early merchants travelled around the city. Behind huge decorated doors are alleyways leading to other parts of the city. This made it easier for people to go between different shops to sell their wares.
