The central part of the city, called a "peninsula" and made by the confluence of the Saone and the Rhone rivers, is an ideal place to stay in Lyon - the life is boiling everywhere. It's devised in some distinctive districts with his own character: ex working-class suburbs of Pentes de la Croix Rousse, pompous Terreax, busy Cordeliers, vivid Bellecour,... More

This is a good place to wander, window shop and people watch. You can shop too, but many of the shops are expensive and upmarket. There are ample places to eat and to watch the world go by.

This "arrondissement" packs a lot of things to do and visit and it is so nice to be surrounded by 2 rivers.

Plenty of Brand name shops at their usual higher prices and many restaurants which are densely packed at night.

We stayed in this area. Great local for "bouchons" restaurants, access to museums, shopping and the Old town.

Presqu'ile district - "almost-an-island" located between 2 rivers Rhone and Saone and this is the most popular place in Lyon for local and tourists. Why? Because you will find here a lot of interesting - Place Bellecour, Place de Jacobins, Place de la Republique, Place de Terreaux etc. Walking distance to Old City and funicular to Fourviere Hill. Presqu'ile is... More

Visited on a river cruise and was very impressed by the elegant buildings by the river. The Basilica is wonderful, but is on top of a very high hill! The old town is cobbled and quaint. Our guide took us through secret passage ways which link the streets and have been useful in the past to evade enemies. We visited... More

The name for the section of Lyon with 2 rivers separating it from the old and new parts of the city. The confluence was amazing, teeming with fish and easy to walk to. Here you can see the Rhône and Saône join. Very peaceful spot
