Unlike the twin Roman amphitheaters near the Musee Gallo Romain, this amphitheater is set alone and away from any other museum. The space is noticeably smaller than the others as well, and what little remains are definitely “ruins” with limited restoration. The space is a...More

Wow, amazing to think that the Romans had been here and built the Amphitheatre for entertainment. Take the funicular up to the top of the hill and walk to the Amphitheatre. The day I was there they were setting up for a rock concert. Wonderful...More

The amphitheatre was built at the foot of the La Croix-Rousse hill in 19AD. It is closed, so all you can only get a glimpse of it from the small platform outside. One more interesting Roman historical site of ancient Lyon: it was part of...More

This place was closed on Sunday and sadly didn't look too appealing. The walk towards it was quite nice and if you walk further there is a nice garden (grand cote garden) that I would recommend.

Very easy to find, but to understand the place you must go to the museum, next to. It's an interesting place do see in Lyon.

While exploring the traboules of Croix-Rousse, your map will lead you very close to one of the two amphitheatres in Lyon. It is smaller than the Roman complex in Vieux Lyon, but easy to find.

We stumbled upon the Trois Gaules at the end of our tour of the traboules (connecting passages) in the Terreaux neighborhood. As you can see from the picture it is no longer perpetually closed, but open for small performances. I would not go out of...More

Around 1AD (before the Romans came to Lyon), this amphitheatre was built into the side of the hill which leads up to the modern day Croix-Rousse district (the most pleasant district in Lyon). It is purported to have had room for 20,000 people at one...More
