- Phileas FoggParis, France722 contributionsLike in Hollywood!A museum with miniatures, sets, props, costumes and extraordinary models that recall all the great American, English and French films of recent decades. This museum is one of the ten best in France as it is rich in artifacts. An unforgettable visit for cinema lovers! Fabulous!Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 4, 2024
- PISTACHE21250Longvic, France203 contributionsGreat museum!Nice surprise ! This museum contains an impressive collection, it takes a good 2 hours to visit it... Very satisfied with our visit which will especially appeal to visitors of our age (in our sixties) who have experienced the whole beautiful period of this still not digital cinema. WELL DONE !Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2024
- Patrick-Fr21Dijon, France802 contributionsTo haveAtypical museum, worth seeing. The workshop of the film Perfume is reproduced identically. Likewise, the reduced models of sets for films are very realistic. On the other hand, a lot of science fiction and even gory film sets, you have to love it. The 1/12 scale miniatures are hyper realistic, with attention to detail. On the other hand, general remark for the whole museum: as much as we understand that the models fear light, it is impossible to read most of the legends and explanations, whereas it would be simple to add a little LED to illuminate them, without damaging anythingVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 19, 2024
- Alexander WBishops Stortford, United Kingdom1,166 contributionsA lot of movie memorabilia on display here, nearly forgot about the miniatures! The miniatures here are great, and it’s interesting to view them, though as these are at the top of the museum they seem almost an afterthought. Loads of great movie memorabilia, well presented. Everything is in a glass case, so would be nice to have a little variety, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Be prepared to climb stairs!Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 23, 2024
- Sarah F46 contributionsSuperb museumSuperb museum, particularly enjoyed the artwork and illustrations section but a great selection of cinema memorabilia from a wide range of genres. In addition the miniature artwork is AMAZING. Well worth a visit if in Lyon.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 25, 2024
- VAT0613Lyon, France486 contributionsGood experience to do with familyVery good experience, the museum is interesting with unique objects The visit is sporty with several floors but the objects encountered are worth the effort However, I perceive 2 points of improvement (having come several years ago) - recover a second location in order to present all of the collections (rather than a turnover, although I understand the financial interest in having a turnover of collections) - highlight the miniatures more, we have the feeling of having 1/4 miniatures for 3/4 cinema objects Personally, I prefer a balance of bothVisited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 22, 2024
- RémiLyon, France107 contributionsAmazingI wasn't sure that this museum would interest my 13 year old daughter and her friend, nor my 21 year old daughter. Well, we all got into the game. The adults got to see objects from cult films again, all the miniatures for special effects... And on the top floor, the miniature pieces are mind-blowingly realistic. Taken photos are stunning. Recommended for all ages.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 23, 2024
- RanarooUzes, France3 contributionsA collection of exceptional international richnessAn absolutely exceptional collection of cinema props and miniature sets in Europe, and even in the world. Allow at least 2 or 3 hours given the richness and size of the museum. These authentic objects come from around thirty Hollywood studios and around ten European studios. Congratulations to its founder, miniaturist artist Dan Ohlmann!Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 2, 2024
- JoelapinMarseillan, France336 contributionsThings to do for cinema loversVery beautiful museum ideally located in old Lyon behind the courthouse, many original costumes, pieces prohibited or not recommended for children, a magnificent life-size Alien Queen, full of artifacts that will please as many people as possible. And a subtle and magnificent visit to the miniatures which are exceptional!!! Honestly, don't dwell on the great cinema effects seen before, the miniatures are exceptionally beautiful! To have! Very friendly welcomeVisited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 5, 2024
- broceliandeBrittany, France171 contributionsA nice visit! This museum in old Lyon is worth a look! There you will find characters and sets from well-known films, as well as a floor devoted to miniatures. The building is typical of Old Lyon and extends over several floors. In short, a great time and lots of memories of the films of my youth!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 14, 2024

There is so much to see in this museum - if you're a movie fan it's a must-see. There's props from all genres of movies and some high profile items too. Interesting information provided on behind the scenes process of film making. Could easily spend 90 minutes in here, but can do it in 45 if you breeze through everything.
The top level is dedicated to amazingly detailed miniature models that are very impressive.

Quirky and exceptionally informative museum spread over 3 floors of a UNESCO world heritage building. Impressive collection of movie props, special effects, costumes, and life size characters from popular movies. Several short films, behind the scenes. Appreciated that almost everything was bilingual, in French and English. Some displays may not be suitable for young or sensitive people, they are well marked in advance. Amazing detail given to creating the many miniatures in display on the top floor, I really appreciated this talent. Reasonable entry fee, discount for seniors (60+) and children. Highly recommend.

Musee du Cinema et de la Miniature is quite an unusual museum. It has exhibits that have to do with cinema, in miniature, plus many others. It's a totally weird sort of world! It's worth spending some time looking at all this fascinating stuff.

This is a great little museum dedicated to both cinema and miniature dioramas. The displays are very good, with a lot of props from various films. The layout is very good, with a couple of rooms separated off as they contain props potentially unsuitable for children (weapons, horror film props etc). I found the Alien display quite triggering! My favourite bit was the top floor of dioramas which were not only fascinating in themselves but also show how light can be used to suggest a time of day. Highly recommended.

Great visit on 5 floors dedicated to cinema, especially American, and a top floor devoted to miniatures by Dan Ohlmann, simply magnificent! The price may seem expensive at first but we have 1h30 in this exotic museum. A must do!

Very nice collection, very beautiful miniatures but the entry is a little too expensive to visit the collection of an enthusiast.
Past the crowd, we discover surprising animatronics, silicone masks and reduced real-life scenes (miniatures)
It is however regrettable that no in-depth technical explanation is given to us (both on the manufacture of prostheses and on the different ways of filming a scene).
It is this touch of technique that is missing for the exhibition of personal objects to become a museum in its own right.
However, it's nice to see these objects, especially with children (but more complete explanations would have been welcome)

While visiting a calm Lyon in August, with a friend from Lyon we decide to finally go and visit the Miniature and Cinema Museum which seems unmissable in the city of the Brothers of Lights. We found the entry price slightly excessive even with a student rate. And despite the interesting collections for big cinema fans, the price remains disappointing and we are left a little unsatisfied by noting the somewhat dated museography of this museum which could have more ambition. The miniatures section is also nice and highlights this work of art but lacks explanations and relief. We also noted a lack of lighting in certain modules which literally does not allow us to highlight beautiful pieces throughout the museum. We are therefore generally left wanting more and expected more for this museum...

Very nice museum experience with models, videos, miniatures more true than life, history of the films on display.... Worth the budget. 9 rooms spread over 3 floors (sports). Elevator for the less courageous. Nice family visit. Adults and children amazed.

We really enjoyed the visit and delving into our great classics. There are a lot of interesting things to observe: from mythical objects, to prosthetics, decor...
Only one downside: the crowd. At the time of our visit, there were quite a few people which did not make it easy to visit the small rooms (especially the miniatures). It was not necessarily appreciable.

Musee du Cinema et de la Miniature has an incredible collection of movie memorabilia. Everything from a Chucky doll, to a full-size Alien to props from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Each provided with interesting facts, all available in English. We had a fantastic time walking around the museum. It was never too crowded, and we never felt rushed, taking the time to explore each exhibit.
The next time we're in Lyon, we're definitely visiting this again.

Hi. I am planning to visit this museum this weekend (me for the miniature aspect and my son for the cinema aspect). Do you recommend booking in advance?
Many thanks

I think you are safe walking up. We were there during the Women's World Cup this summer when there were loads of people in Vieux Lyon and had no trouble walking in. Enjoy the Musee du Cinema.
