Ride the Fernicular from Vieux Lyon Metro Station to the top of Fourviere Hill for the best overall sights of Lyon as well as the cathedral perched on the top. If preferred there is the ability to walk up, but not easy.

A must see, not only for the basilic, but also for the spectacular views of the old town. Take the funiculaire to avoid the long climb.

Even the funicular trip is a treat for a tourist, but what's truly breathtaking is the view. The Basilica itself is well worth a visit, and you simply must walk down through the amphitheatre on the way back down to the Old Town.

Highly recommendable for an overview of the city, easy acces with the steep funicular, the church on top is decorated "over the top" and not particularly interesting nor old, it's really the view from the terrace that makes this a must. Walk back down via the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre or take the funicular back.

We got the vernacular to the top and then walked down. The views are incredible and the Notre dame cathedral at the top is worth looking at! A must when in Lyon!!

A great place for a stroll and to check out the Roman ruins of Lyon more than 2000 years old. There is two amphitheatres and remnants of a city that stood before the modern day Lyon. If you want to learn more about this ancient Roman city there is also a museum but this will cost 10e. Amazing views of... More

Unless you are moderately fit take the easy way - the tram to the top. At the top the views over Lyon are marvellous and the effort required to get there is well worthwhile.

The cathedral is very impressive and well worth seeing. It is not as old as the cathedrals below it but much more elaborate. We went on Sunday afternoon and there were all manor of religious orders outside. If you walk around to the other side of the church you will have the best view of Lyon. You can catch the... More
