The view of Lyon itself is not worth a lot; but if you combine it with a visit to the church up there - then it is worth a tour. Take the metro ;-). It is pretty easy to walk down.

The view east over Lyon is stunning, especially on a clear day. Vieux Lyon, the Saone, Presqu'ilse, the Rhône, and then eastern Lyon are kind of like the New Yorker cover looking west from the east side of Manhattan. Lots of things to see on...More

Ride up to the top of the hill on the funicular. Take in the view after visiting the Basilica and other hilltop sites. The view is spectacular and great for photographs. You get a feel for the size of Lyon, France's 3rd largest city. Of...More

Taking in the magnificent view on Fourvière hill you can see the great expanse of Lyon below - a reminder that spread before you is the second largest city in France- only surpassed by Paris. Much to see and also recognizing the gourmet experience of...More

The big attraction up here, of course, is the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere, but it offers a great view of the city. There are a lot of church-related places, like monasteries and convents, plus residential areas. You can also see Roman ruins of...More

Sorry we didn't eat up there but you can easily get the funicular down to the old town only takes 10 minutes or so where there are dozens of restaurants!

Same answer as above as it`s quiet steep but if it folds you can fit it on the funicular. Good luck.
