A Must Visit
Jan 2020 • Solo
You can't say you have visited if you have not visited this Basilica. It is beautifully built and furnished and has really great views of the city as well. A must visit when in Lyon.

Spectacular view of the city of Lyon!
Jan 2020
We visited Lyon in May 2019 when we researching our upcoming book "Flavour with Benefits: France".

You need to walk up to the Basilica. It is great exercise and an even better view. Plus you'll build a terrific appetite for all of the delicious food in Lyon. Bon appetit!

mosaics
Oct 2020
The design of the basilica seems out of place to me sitting above Vieux Lyon. It’s also a mix of architectural styles. Certainly a unique statement. The mosaics inside very impressive. Well worth a visit and easy to do with the funicular. Also has great views of the city below. A short walk from here to the Roman theater. I can only imagine how much more beautiful it looks at night.

Take the F2 F2 funicular to the top
Sep 2020
Be sure to take the F2 funicular to the top from the Saint Jean station. The treat is a panoramic wonderful view of the city, overlooking Vieux Lyon (the old town). Entrance to the Basilique is free so be sure to go inside.

Impressive building
Aug 2019
Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere is a beautiful building. It was built in the late 19th century in the name of the Virgin Mary who is supposed to have saved the city from the bubonic plague that raged throughout Europe in 1643. The church is a wonderful work of art in itself, both inside and out. It stands on Fourviere Hill and can be seen from a considerable distance away. It is worth a visit and you would be really missing out if you left this sight off your itinerary.
