This place is so over the top you have to see to believe. Take the funicular, get out at the museum stop, haul yourself up to the roman ruins of Lughunum and the Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon (be sure to stop in and gawk at the amazing displays), continue up hill some more and wham! The basilica hits you and... More

Apparently a privately owned/built bascilica amazing mosaic panels and marble. The view from the forecourt is amazing. If I wasn't on a tour, I would not have paid to see this one- there are plenty of classically old magnificent churches in France, this one is a bit Disneyland

There are cityscape views from outside the basilique. Whilst I recommend you go inside to feel the musk of the heavy air inside that reveals its beautiful structure & design, this old place of worship gives you a glimpse into the past & is still used today. A must to-do for newcomers to the city.

It is quit a steep climb from the old city to get to the basilique, but when there you will have a breathtaking view of the city. On your way up you pass through a great park. On a warm day that park must be a lovely place. The basilique has grand mosaics, and these are really worth the climb.... More

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I've ever had the pleasure to visit. From the moment you see it having left the funicular railway station, to walking through the beautifully carved doors and stunning interior. Outside the views over the city are awesome.

Take the funicular up from the metro station. The exit is at the front entrance to the Basilique. Plenty of photo ops outside with the statue of Pope John Paul and a stone lion. The interior is way over the top. Every detail is amazing. The amount of work that went into this build, well, I cannot imagine. The tile... More

This place is magnificent! I was blown away by the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, and if you are going to Lyon you should not miss it out. You do not have to plan a half day there, I believe that around 1 hour is more than enough time. Go inside (both upstairs AND downstairs) and look around, go outside... More

Nice church to visit on the hill. Train is available to reach to the church and should be visited if in Lyon.
