I wouldn't go here to eat or shop as almost everything is geared to the tourist, but it's worth walking through (and maybe grabbing an ice cream). Some of the stores are historical - we bought a beautiful silk scarf from one of their more authentic silk shops (i.e. Not made in China). A lot smaller than you'd think so... More

Vieux Lyon is packed with intriguing architecture, casual brasseries, many historical sites, and lovely boutiques. The day we visited there was also an art fair happening on the banks of the Saone river, and the quality of the art and crafts displayed there was quite impressive. We hiked up to the Roman ruins, and visited the Musee des Beaux Arts... More

Well worth exploring. Very interesting architecture, fascinating museums. Avoid the restaurants, except for a snack and beverage. The Musée Gadagne has a delightful café nestled in a terraced garden; interesting menu with pleasant service.

Streets of Vieux Lyon are picturesque to stroll around. Be sure to eat at a traditional bouchon restaurant. Check out traboules, museums, churches. Learn the history. It's a fascinating area.

I had an afternoon free, before catching an EasyJet to Rome, and used it to walk around Lyon. Much to explore and very easy to poke around and fall into a relaxing, desultory stroll. History everywhere, from Roman glory to rococo, too busy 150 year old Basilique de Notre Dame. Great view from up at the church, getting a real... More

Going to Vieux Lyon is a bit like going to any concentrated tourist oriented part of any big city. It's pleasant to walk around and sight-see, and to get a feel for the oldest part of the city. But you are bombarded with restaurant choices, most claiming to be "Bouchon" style. I was with a big group and we wandered... More

Outstanding place with very old streets where gallo-roman périod struggles with italian Renaissance with a lot of outstanding houses and stairs or balcony that makes Lyon a little Firenze. UNESCO heritage , old Lyon is a must see easy to walk in as monument full in a relatively small area You need 1or 2 full days minimum. Wonderful

Really enjoyed walking around Vieux Lyon on a crowded Saturday. Beautiful old buildings updated with very nice shops and restaurants of types.

Lyon was interesting, but I'd not rush to visit it again, nothing special, just a typical French city really. The architecture in Lyon has a slight Italian influence, which increases the further South you go. However, a number of areas on the water, well main rivers, could easily have been plucked from the rejuvenated parts of Hamburg. Beautiful but the... More

This is by far the most attractive part of the city. It is very compact, but it is worth more than 1 visit, just to soak up the atmosphere. There is a good choice of restaurants, including many traditional ones.
