When my wife and I first drove into Evian, we were perplexed by the sculptures made from driftwood all over town. We soon learned that these were Flottins, the core element of Evian’s Christmas festivities. There’s a whole mythology of sorts surrounding the Flottins and the mysterious people who bring them down from the mountains every year.
The sculptures … there’s no better way to describe them … are made in the shapes of people, animals, and shelters. The craftsmanship in turning hunks of driftwood into readily-identifiable shapes is particularly impressive.
The two big events of the season are the arrival of the Flottins in early December, and their departure in mid-January. There are parades, music, and a whole lot of family fun. This is a huge family event, kids everywhere enjoying themselves. If you’re in the vicinity of Evian around Christmas time, make plans to join in the fun. And be sure to sample the vin chaud.

Evian is a wonderful town but even so amazing at the time of the Flottins. It is incredible to see the driftwood statues which look so full of life. It amazes me how they have been built and the imagination of the artists who have made them.
You simply have to visit.

I have visited this magical event for many years and never fail to be enchanted !!
Only driftwood from the lake are used. You can find the magical wooden structures throughout the town ! The music, lights, seasonal entertainment...burning torches and large candles all add to a special winter experience.
Participants all dressed in authentic clothes, demonstrating old skills, games long forgotten attract the imagination of children young and old !! Mulled wine and a large choice of eating places, makes this a perfect evening out.

We visited Evian just peior to Christmas last year, and were amazed by these wonderful creations, made I am told from driftwood from Lake Geneva. Words almost fail me when I try to describe the vision and artistry, that goes into these creations, that range from horses and other animals through trolls to my favourite The Jazz Band. This is a free exhibition with the exhibits seemingly filling every nook and crannie around the town. A visit to see this wonderful experience should be on your must do list

The wooden sculptures chnage evry year and ecvery time we are amazed. We love walking through them with the kids, especially if it snowed. For the younger ones, there are animations and ... Santa.

We saw a few of these but I wonder if they've generally been removed because if there are 600+ then I must have been looking in the wrong direction

What a nice surprise we had when we walked from our hotel to the old town one evening and saw this amazing light and sound show surrounding some spectacular drift wood sculptures. The sculptures were all over the town but there was a lovely collection of them on the main square and they were the centre stage for the sound and light show. Men and women dressed as fairy-folk were walking around with torches and entertaining kids - such an interesting change from the usual Christmas markets.

The Flottins are made from hundreds of pieces of woods gathered from the lake and made into large figurines or animals. They are located in the walking area of the centre of Evian. They have also placed little benches so that we can sit inside some of these structures which is a lovely idea. Lovely family afternoon!

Bonjour,
Je voulais me rendre à Evian pour découvrir les bois flottés. La visite est -elle faisable sur une journée ou faut il prévoir au minimum deux jours pour avoir le temps de tout découvrir?
Merci
