Very well taken care of promenade, not crowded, plenty of things to see and places to stop by and grab a bite or enjoy a drink.

Also known as Lake Geneva

Lac Léman is a freshwater lake and the largest in Switzerland is shared between France and Switzerland, overlooked by the Alps. On the southern, French side, is the spa town and resort of Évian-les-Bains. The Castle Chillon is located on the lake.

My Visit
Feb 2020
One of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen. It's near the Alps so surrounded by snow mountains.

Nice wide walkways and gardens along the lake. Not the most exciting town I've ever visited

Good air quality. We visited out of season and many places, including the funicular railway, were closed. Walk by the lake was lovely as we had an open, sunny day. Pleasant enough and of coursebthenlake and scenery are beautiful and atmospheric. Lausanne / Ouchy on the Swiss side of the lake are on a grander and more appealing scale

A wonderful view of one of the world's prettiest lakes
May 2019
Being from Michigan, I love lakes. This lake reminds me of the great bays along Lake Michigan, particularly Grand Traverse Bay and Little Traverse Bay. However, unlike in Michigan and Wisconsin, this one has the Alps in the distance!

so many different sights and places to see. There are lots of water sports going on and the path by the lake in Evians Les Bains is really lovely with interesting trees and beautiful flower beds

Views are magnificent
Aug 2019
We visited Lac Leman in August, and the sun was shining. The views are magnificent. You can also swim and do water sport activities in the lake. My kids enjoyed snorkelling in the water.

Cycling around the Lake Geneva- one of the best ways of seeing the diverse shoreline
Jul 2019 • Family
As a family with teenage children we decided to cycle around the whole of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) over 4 days staying at B&Bs/budget hotels en route. There are many options and routes, particularly on the Swiss side, although Route 46 is the official route around the lake. Do not expect to hug the shoreline throughout, although this is most possible from Vevey around past Montreux and Chateau de Chillon. In several places the shoreline is privately owned denying public access routes and in these areas the route takes you away from the lake but usually into pretty villages and up where a view of the are can be enjoyed. Use the Switzerland Mobility App to explore different options throughout and don´t be afraid to go off the designated route to find a hidden gem. Be careful using Google maps with the cycling option as this can often be on a busier road (usually with a cycle lane) whereas the designated Swiss cycle routes are on much quieter side roads.

The prettiest section of cycle route 46 is from Lausanne to Vevey where the road rises into the vineyards affording ever more pretty views of the lake below and the French Alps beyond. Stunning scenery makes the puff uphill well worth the while and the obligatory stop for a drink or bite to eat at the viewpoint in the village of Grandvaux is worth the journey on its own (we did this section twice - once at the beginning of the tour and once at the end!).

The French side is less interesting overall, partly because the view back over Lac Leman is not as dramatic as the view from the north side, but also because the cycle route, although improving year on year, is not always on quiet roads/paths. There are alternatives, which involve some climbs between St Gingolph and Evian, but we found these worth it for the more peaceful roads and more extensive views. Evian, Thonon and Yvoire are worthy places to visit and rest awhile. <

Take your time and enjoy the experience and make sure you bathe in the lake regularly if the weather is hot, as it was for us.

Magical and mysterious
Jun 2019 • Friends
The trip on the ferry was just so magical and mysterious. The water an azure blue satin surface with diamond rippling. So beautiful, all the surrounding lake side villages. So peaceful gazing on the vista of sea, mountain and sky. A most enjoyable and relaxing space.
