For the second year in a row, we took the opportunity to book with Yann and have him take us (a group of seven) on a guided excursion on snowshoe up the slopes of Courchevel and off piste to an igloo he built (actually, a series of conjoined igloos). The trek proved once again marvelous, as we marched uphill in the late afternoon and into a secluded spot off the slopes. Once at the igloo, we removed our snowshoes and proceeded to enjoy some hospitality inside, complete with some warming spirits from a thermos provided by Yann, along with some local cheese. After regaining our strength if not our balance, we proceeded out from the den and back downhill on snowshoe in the gathering darkness, village lights twinkling below us, heading for the spa which awaited. For the next hour, we luxuriated in the showers, baths, heated pools, saunas and banya, until we were fully restored.

This trip adds a wonderful dimension to our Courchevel ski trip and I consider it an essential aspect of our activities during our stay.

Yann is a fit, experienced and friendly guide and I cannot recommend him any higher. He is supremely prepared and completely professional, going so far as to carry a burning torch to light the way should it grow dark. Along the way, he demonstrated his knowledge of the varied trees and animals that comprise the forest.

We will be back again next year.
