To access the Mer de Glace and the Ice Cave in Chamonix, take the train of the Montenvers from Chamonix town center (Gare du Montenvers).A small cable car allows visitors to descend from the train station onto the Mer de Glace glacier where they can enter a man made ice grotto. The ice grotto is cut into the living glacier.... More

I didn't expect to enjoy this visit as much as I did. The main concern about it is how shockingly fast the glacier has shrunk in the last 30 years, you can see signs showing the different levels as you take the steps down to the entrance. I don't think the attraction will exist within the next 5 years so... More

We absolutely love this trip, making easily afternoon after having early morning trip to Aiguille du Midi. We took a tickets for train from train station of the center of town, and this ride takes you up approx 20 minutes to Montenvers. On your way the view over window is incredible and breathtaking. We just enjoyed this ride by itself.... More

Stairs aside ... because you have to climb all of them back to the top ... there is much to be said about this tourist attraction. This is an interesting tourist attraction, because let's be honest, how often do you get to walk INSIDE a glacier? My take on this is mixed. If you are a supporter of protecting Earth-... More

My family and I took the tram to Mer de Glace, which is where you can find the ice caves. Once you make your way to the top of the mountain on the tram, you must get in line to take the cable car to the entrance of the glacier. There is a lot of WALKING and stair-climbing (I think... More

This was not worth the time and money to visit. Yes it is an ice cave, but the long and tedious trip down and then back up the stairs with thousands of people and their dogs pushing and kids with strollers (seriously people, leave them at the top of the stairs) pushing and shoving. If there was an easier, and... More

Great experience & amazing blue color of the tunnel. Montenvers train ride from valley to Mer de Glace station had beautiful view both way. It's free admission into the cave. Inside the cave has photo booth service, printed right away. But because it require lots of step climbing even after get off the lift, people with foot/knee problem might have... More

Not much to see inside after a long walk. There were just a couple of sculptures to look at and that is it.
