Ok we were on a Sunday but still... it does not make the whole tour of the lake. Some places you have to share with cars. There are a lot work on the road and thus a lot red lights and trafic jam. You have to concentrate so much between the cars, people riding at 40K like on a free road and families with children going all over the place that you can't even appreciate the lake views. Either do it very early morning or during the week.

We rented our bike from Annecy then we went direct South-West you can check the pic that is attached to the review. We thought we'd do an hour and then the ride was so beautiful that we decided to continue all the way. We stopped just before Talloires town and had lunch there on a beautiful place by the lake called "Bistrot du Ponton". The ride is 42km in total from and to Annecy. It took us around 6 hours to do it in total (taking pics + lunch + enjoying). There is a part just after Talloires town that is very difficult and we had to walk with our bikes (we were not able to bike it). I have highlighted this place in black.
Long story short, the ride is most beautiful on the west side of the lake - not extremely pretty from the east side (so if you're short on time and not willing to get tired, stick to the west side of the lake), andif you'd like a little adventure and have some time to spare go ahead and do the full tour but expect to be tired if you're an intermediate biker!

The route is well marked and easy riding except for the steep hill on the northeast side. Steep switchbacks are doable, but difficult for flatlanders. The view is spectacular as you ride around the lake and through residential sections. The area close to town is a little crowded and you need to watch out going through the barriers.

The bike route has a range of options from basic cycle path for the family to a lake tour of 40km to tough mountains like Semnoz.

They are working on completing the tour du lac so you wont have to go on the road @ all but in the summer its a little dangerous for a few sections on the Veyrier / Talloires side. 2020 I guess before its finished.

the Annecy / Sevrier side is all a converted rail line and very safe and very flat unless you want to run off into the mountains

there are a range of "hills" from basic 4/5% options to more challenging 10% options like Semnoz

As always in Annecy July / August is very busy and a little dangerous because of the mix of users in terms of ability and equipment..

It's an old rail line converted for walkers, bike riding etc.
We stayed at Albertville and cycled to Annecy and back. A very pleasant experience with many stop off points and I recommend the snack shack by the old railway engine. Great coffee and super ice creams.
The track goes much further than we experienced.

Rented out a bike and toured the lake from Talloires. It took me around 4 hours with many stops; the main one being Annecy. The weather was amazing, water blue green and day magical. You get to pass by all the villages and see the lake from the different sides. A must!!

Best ride we found was on electric bikes going clockwise around the lake and climbing up to Col del la Forclaz. This is the best ride for views, scenery and stops for restaurants and bars. We also enjoyed our 40km ride around the lake on standard bikes but the ride out on the electric bikes up that 1200m Col took us to a different level. At the top you can take a paraglider down and come back up for your bike in the van. Cycle back same way but take detour for Bluffy and Chateau for best views and interest. The old railway line cycle path on the West shore is excellent quality surface but takes you away from the lake and the bars and cafes for much of its length. Electric bikes are such fun. Am now hooked for mountain climbs!

We rented bikes and cycled 50 km return on this route. It was busy in parts but so safe and a great way to see the lake.
