I wished the castle told more stories
Oct 2019 • Couples
The Castle was well worth the trip but do not expect life of the past to be brought to life through story telling. There is no head phone guided tour and explanation and very little written explanation in English. I had to use my imagination . It was inexpensive to get in.

Musee D'Annecy - something to do
Oct 2019 • Family
Learn about the history of Annecy around its lake. A steep walk up the hill to the Castle but a good place to inspect and discover. Free on Sundays otherwise 5 Euros other days. The staff only allow a staggered entrance circa 100 people at a time so a small 30 min wait at front gates may occur,

Enjoyable few hours.

Beautifully restored
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is a lovely and very large Chateau that has been very well restored. However, as our French is a bit limited, it would have been very helpful to have more explanations in English. Well worth the visit.

Worth the walk up to the castle!

For only five euros you can get inside the castle grounds and museum- which is a bargain! There is plenty of rooms to explore the old and new and even an added surprise of a some fish in their mini aquarium- displaying the fish of Lake Annecy. Gorgeous views over the town.

Go set it - well presented chateau with some interesting exhibits, views, and insights
Jul 2019
I read some previous reviews and was a bit torn as to whether it was worth the effort. It is definitely worth the effort. The Chateau has a wide range of exhibits about everything to do with the area from the ecology of the lake, to the town and previous 'authorities', to the history of the lake, the town and the wider region. The view from the chateau is great from the rampart walls as the city spreads out before you. Some things in the chateau are presented in too much detail but there is such a range of stuff that there is something for all. I know that some people who like the chateau to look as it did when the lords of the area lived there but there is very rare in France. You get glimpses of how it was and maybe it might benefit from more furnishings that suit the age of the chateau, and less about ecology and boat building (although I accept the importance of both)!

More a museum than a castle
May 2019 • Friends
This was less interesting than we had expected. A lot of the exhibits were to do with local history or geology, and there wasn't much that was "castle" in the place. It is set up on a hill, and there are good views over Annecy from its walls.

Best views over the old city
Sep 2018 • Friends
Interesting but a bit disjointed museum collection. Some early artwork of the old town is interesting to compare to the way it looks today. The antique chests are also very beautiful and one of the largest collections I've come across. Some of the other rooms are very sparce and would be improved with some other local antiquities. Then there is some more modern art-paintings that just don't seem to go....probably a temporary collection but the space just isn't conducive to it. The best part are the chateau upper windows that give a beautiful view over the old town and great photos. Definitely still worth the small admission. Take note of opening hours on their website as they are a little random.

A must do when in Old Annecy, France.
Sep 2018 • Family
Do this tour! I think we paid the grouped fee which also got us into the Palais d'Ile as well. (note: do the Palais d'Ile first as it is not as amazing as the Chateau and a bit of a let down after the Chateau. Still need to see it, just do it first, then the Chateau). Self guided and many of the rooms have large plasticized info cards in French and English to give info on what is in the room. Took us a while to figure that out ;) Amazing history with this building and it is right in Old Annecy, literally a 3 minute walk up a bit of a steep cobblestone drive right off of the main walking street in Old Town (Rue Perriere). The large fireplace I have EVER seen. Amazing large upper windows overlooking Annecy. Go up the tower and look through the barred windows across the courtyard to the lake. In the courtyard, be sure to go to the far side to the wall and look across the town and towards the lake, money views!

Beautiful castle
Aug 2018
It was a lovely structure to appreciate history and antiquity. It wasn't interesting where most rooms were used as an art gallery though the art was beautiful. We did not have an audio guide for both of us and in hindsight, that would have helped the visit.

Great trip to one of The oldest cities in France!
May 2018 • Friends
Annecy was one of the beautiful little gems of France! Visited city in one afternoon. Was with a larger group so felt like more time was needed to get a true feel of the town. Small bridges leading into cannals. A lake surrounded by flowers and boats. Shopping and restaurants throughout the city. Met many people from various countries. Great find!
