Average castle building - good views of the lake. The contemporary art exhibition looked interesting but disappointingly none of the descriptions were in English (or any other language in fact) so had to guess everything - a point we made in the shop and something they said they were going to change.

This was good without being great although I suspect anybody who visits Annecy would want to come here for a visit. Good way to spend a rainy morning and it is a good walk up from the city below,

Have gone to all types of muséums in France. This one felt disjointed. It didn’t tell the story of the ancient people to today.s society. Why was this area part of the Geneva region for instance. What happened here in WW1 and WW2? The museum in Aix le Bain’s does a far better job explaining its history just 30 min away. Then they have a contemporary art exhibition which does nothing for the theme. Stories about the history of the castle are also missing.

Great view of the town, the lake and the surrounding area.
Great exhibition on the chateau's history and natural environment
Please dont waste your time on other exhibition, especially the modern art exhibition.

The Castle was well worth the trip but do not expect life of the past to be brought to life through story telling. There is no head phone guided tour and explanation and very little written explanation in English. I had to use my imagination . It was inexpensive to get in.

Learn about the history of Annecy around its lake. A steep walk up the hill to the Castle but a good place to inspect and discover. Free on Sundays otherwise 5 Euros other days. The staff only allow a staggered entrance circa 100 people at a time so a small 30 min wait at front gates may occur,
Enjoyable few hours.

This is a lovely and very large Chateau that has been very well restored. However, as our French is a bit limited, it would have been very helpful to have more explanations in English. Well worth the visit.

For only five euros you can get inside the castle grounds and museum- which is a bargain! There is plenty of rooms to explore the old and new and even an added surprise of a some fish in their mini aquarium- displaying the fish of Lake Annecy. Gorgeous views over the town.

I read some previous reviews and was a bit torn as to whether it was worth the effort. It is definitely worth the effort. The Chateau has a wide range of exhibits about everything to do with the area from the ecology of the lake, to the town and previous 'authorities', to the history of the lake, the town and the wider region. The view from the chateau is great from the rampart walls as the city spreads out before you. Some things in the chateau are presented in too much detail but there is such a range of stuff that there is something for all. I know that some people who like the chateau to look as it did when the lords of the area lived there but there is very rare in France. You get glimpses of how it was and maybe it might benefit from more furnishings that suit the age of the chateau, and less about ecology and boat building (although I accept the importance of both)!

This was less interesting than we had expected. A lot of the exhibits were to do with local history or geology, and there wasn't much that was "castle" in the place. It is set up on a hill, and there are good views over Annecy from its walls.
