    A timeless place
The Palais de l'Ile is certainly one of the most beautiful places in Annecy. This historic monument dates back to the Middle Ages and can be seen free of charge from the banks of the river that surrounds it in the middle of the city. It's a must-see on any visit to Annecy. However, you need to be careful about the time of year you visit, as it can be very touristy and therefore quickly suffocating with people.

    Walking through time
It’s a marvellously atmospheric and evocative space. On the Thiou, it was great to see its majestic profile as we strolled towards and around it. Its past role predominantly as a prison is highly evident. Cells and dungeons are redolent of the tough past. This function was again implemented during the dreadful years of WW II. Today it provides a fabulous home for a museum of the architecture and heritage of the city and region. And it wonderfully exhibits and describes these.

    Beautiful Area
Beautiful area to walk around and Ed’s ducks in the water as you then encounter this impressive structure. Artists were sitting on the bridge as we crossed over to enter. Self guided tour. You can scan the QR code and read about the structure in English. Old prison from the past that was reused by the Germans in WW2. Interesting to see where the prisoners carved names in the walls. Other architectural exhibits mainly in French.

The Palais de l'Ile is a historic monument located in the old prison district. There are temporary exhibitions on various thematic artists throughout the year. This building, also called Les Vieilles Prisons, is built on a rocky island in Thiou. A fortified house type, it was mentioned for the first time in 1325 as being a Middle Ages prison. I don't know if you can visit it but I definitely think it's one of the most visited buildings in Annecy. Beautiful and well maintained, it is worth the detour.

This iconic structure is seen throughout Annency. The museum has interesting exhibits that detail the background of the building. It’s interesting to travel from room to room and take in the various displays. The museum is the perfect size for an hour’s visit. It is well worth the entry fee.

On December 16, we visited this beautiful and charming city. The most beautiful place is after the bridge. This historical building on the islet on the river was originally used as a customs building and has been used by different units over time. It is a very beautiful building. It is the most beautiful structure of the city. Everyone takes a photo here. We could not visit the inside.

The Palais de l’Isle is the iconic wedge-shaped building that can no doubt be seen on most photos of Annecy.

The building is actually a museum now and well worth a look round.
Alternatively, just be like most tourists and get your camera out.

While visiting Geneva, made a half day trip to Annecy. It was well worth it, the highlight was the Palais de I'lle with the scenic scene of the river, the cafes and restaurants along the riverwalk and Palais right in the middle. So many good photo opportunities.

Hotel in the city center. The entrance is original, you have to take an elevator, the reception is upstairs. We took the “Ducs” suite room, very bright and large. The only thing to review is the furniture on the living room side (sofa and armchairs, aging).
The welcome is pleasant and information is easily given to us.
A nice plus: parking is not possible on site, but the hotel supports overnight parking in the two main locations (public basement).
Breakfast is sufficient and rather varied. Perhaps it would be good to review the (low-end) charcuterie
Overall, we had a very good stay at this hotel.

This is the most iconic edifice and symbol of this cute small town. It's set at the old town entrance right on the river.
The castle dates back to 12 c, and served as a prison for many years. Today it's a small interesting museum with a low entry fee.

This building really has an incredible history
Prison originally, then courthouse, then administrative center
We find all these traces during the visit
We also discover the history of Annecy and its surroundings and its evolution until today
Really interesting!
