Eglise Saint-Laurent is located on a site which is full of history. It is close to the Fort Saint Jean. Archaeological excavations have unearthed evidence indicating that there was an ancient Greek temple on the site, probably worshipping the god Apollo. Marseille was originally founded by ancient Greek settlers, and this explains the Greek temple. The present building is nothing to be excited about, apart from its historical significance through the ages.

A small building near Fort Saint-Jean, which is impressive and beautiful. I didn't visit inside and just stopped by.

Church of Saint-Laurent is directly across from Fort St-Jean and over looks the port. This Catholic church has been a fisherman’s parish since the 1100s.

Yes, it is the oldest church in Marseille. But, for me, it was boring. Nothing to see from the outside. Nothing to see from the inside. I didn't skip it only because my apartment was 15 meters away.

This church is a little under 600 years old and for me in some respects more impressive than the modern cathedral, as the effort to build it in this location at that time is to be respected

We stopped at this Church during a wedding and as soon as everyone left we jumped in to enjoy the beauties of it.

Went for a stroll in the Old Town and ended up at the museum where there was the most amazing show of modern/futuristic/science fiction art. Wonderful experience within walking distance of the waterfront.

Very beautiful Provençal Romanesque style church (12th/13th century) with an impressive exterior and an extremely simple interior. Built on a hillock, it offers the visitor a superb panorama of the sea and ND de la Garde.
