You can easily reach Parc Balneaire du Prado by bus. This is a series of 3 beaches along the coast of Marseille, easily reachable from the center. The water is blue and good for a swim. You have a lifeguard on each beach and facilities like lockers, showers, etc. For a city beach, I thought it was quite nice!

A large and sandy beach, with a lot of entertainment and leisure places to be. I went on a windy day and there were lots of people doing kitesurf. Recommended place to be with children.

Though Marseille is not really famous for its beaches, my wife and I think this was a great spot to visit. Very nice to take a sun bath, and just chill out after an entire day of walking around the city. There are bars and restaurants close by to go get a drink or dinner afterwards.

The most popular and accessible beaches downtown Marseille are the beaches on Parc Balneaire du Prado, dominated by a copy of Michelangelo's David that get its time of glory at gay prides.
The Parc is nice for walks and footings, but the beach is really not appealing. Except if one is really in a hurry, you can find much more exciting spots for swimming and suntan.

This is a very nice beach park that is long and huge. Plenty of things to do there with many nice restaurants for seafood, and desserts. There is a nice ferry wheel and great place for families..

Just in case anyone is wondering, the Prado beach at Marseille is a rock/pebble beach, rather than sand.
There are other beaches in the area (5-10 KM) that are sand beaches, therefore much more pleasant.
In favor of the Prado, there are many restaurants and bars in the area to enjoy before or after the (rock) beach!

There is nothing much to see in the actual park itself. However, at the back of the park there are two small shingle beaches that were quite empty even on the hot day that I visited. There's no playground for children just a big green area to picnic of play football. There are many more places along the coastline with beaches or play areas worth seeing than this one.

Seaside park offering swimming beaches, sailing & paddleboarding, plus playgrounds & restrooms.
It is nearby the largest beach in Marseille, even if it is more like a succession of beaches over miles between the David beach (so named because of the eponymous statue), at the Vieille Chapelle beach.

I enjoy biking in this area! There is a long road, the Corniche, that leads you to the Parc. The water might not be so clean, it depends on the current. There are many people, so you can make new acquaintances ;)
