We walked past this area several times during our stay in Marseille. There are countless restaurants and cafes around and you are really spoiled for choice. There is a lot of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. And the views are fantastic because you will be most probably facing the water and the beauty of Marseille if you were seating at one of these places. Definitely worth visiting.

Just in from the eastern side of the Vieux Port, this square gives you a real feel for Marseille. It is full of bars and restaurants and has a great atmosphere, especially in the evening.
It's very touristy - but so is the Vieux Port; and let's face it, as afficionados of Trip Advisor we are all part of the tourist horde - so let's not be too picky! Just be happy to sit at an outside restaurant table with a cold beer and a fine helping if Moules frites, people watching and soaking up the ambience.
There are harder ways to spend an evening.

I visit this square a lot as it "on top of" the most used underground parking in the "Vieux Port" (Old Port) in Marseille....the reason for this review is that I have eaten at a couple of the many restaurants in the square and they're all pretty OK....however they renovated an old building at the parking garage entrance and made it into the HARD ROCK CAFE MARSEILLE in 2014....and guess what?...it's tanked...they sell burgers for 20 euros....beer well overpriced for the city centre and have a merchandising store selling H-R tee-shirts which is always empty....so I have to ask myself what were the city planners doing allowing this to happen??
Marseille is a very traditional city....it's brasseries, boulangeries, patissieries, do not take kindly to brashy American-style burger joints...and Hard Rock Café was doomed from the beginning.....my advice..it's not a tourist attraction, give it a miss.

There's a lot of restaurants here so watch out. Very near the old port so stroll through. Many cafes and bars and restaurants at all price levels. Use a tourist map and also see Place Thiars next door.

Almost a prt of the old port, this area of Marseille should be included in the port visit. For a history that goes back to the times of the Greeks, oil, Provence and the Mediterranean go hand in hand.
Modern olive oils are excellent try some of the different flavours and then wonder why the incidence of heart problems amongst the locals is soooo low!. Butter, no thank you - I prefer olive oil.

Whatever you are seeking to settle your appetite, this is the place in Marseille to find it. The only reason for me that it lost a spot from Excellent is right now the Harbour is going through so much construction that the area is not quite as nice as it will be when all is done.

if you're stuck for places to eat this is where to head. countless restaurants and bars here, this was vibing on weekend nights.
Some are naturally better than others so obviously be sceptical about deals that seem too good to be true, but yeh, very nicely preserved old building and a nice space in the city centre.

A little cafe with tables & chairs on the steps, in the corner, sells the most amazing ice cream flavours!
Get the ferry boat here across the river.

A lively square a block from old Harbour. No Seaview here, but cheaper and many restaurants and even a Spar grocery shop.
