The museum is very well done and the exhibits are particularly interesting. There are many exhibits of animals, birds, insects and some environmental lessons. Therexwere 2 groups of school children there when I visited and they were quite absorbed. Good for adults, too!

I didn't plan to come here. I had wanted to see the museum of fine art on the left wing but they closed till mid June. Since I was there, I might as well visit the one on the right wing. Though to be honest, taxidermy is not my thing as I find animal cruelty mainly serve to satisfy the vanity of human. The permanent exhibition is on the entire ground floor which filled up with all kinds of taxidermy from around the world. The inner hall found cabinets with prehistoric display including human skulls and other creatures. All the description were in handwriting which resonates with the long history. Some will complain of no English explanation here but actually most of them were in Latin as those were the originals names of the species. The temporary exhibition on the first floor was named '' the war of beasts''. On the left end of the hall, more cabinets were found with bird eggs, tortoise, butterflies, insects, lobster, crab, sea urchin, fossils in different periods such as the Jurassic and Pliocene. There is a screen in the middle of the hall playing some video about the World War One. Then the left end of the room is a walk through with description of how different animals were being used to help in the First World War. ( They called it the Great war of 1914-1918) It started to get interesting reading all these descriptions. How dogs acted as searchers for the wounded, particularly in the mountain zone, how pigeon delivered letters with message as far as 400 km. Horses were the most useful one as they could function greatly as transport. Besides, birds, frogs, rabbits and fish were food for the desperate tranches residents. But at the end of chronological exhibition approaching or after the end of the war, most animals had a tragic ending. They either suffered a painful death, or if those were lucky, went back to their masters, otherwise being sold to the slaughterhouse. Although some monuments were built in appreciation of their effort in the war, their fates of being badly used and then discarded was indisputable.

Museum d’Histoire Naturelle de Marseille is located in the Palais Longchamp, a beautiful palace-like building. This Natural History Museum was founded in the 19th century and contains some of the most amazing exhibits. Worth a visit if you can make it.

Outside the building is marvellous with an ancient greek style inside a beautiful garden with a waterfall.. Inside as a building is really old and badly preserved. It was dirty, illuminated in a poor way and also really expensive with very few specimens. NO ONE spoke not even a single word in English. The personnel was extremely rude. A woman working there was shouting at me in French inside the museum because I was following the wrong direction when I was walking in a half empty museum. Avoid it if you want to stay calm and not lose your money. Enjoy the garden outside of it.

The staff do not speak English and all the information inside the museum was in French and therefore we could not follow what was written in the various items. There is also not much to see. The park, however, surrounding the palace is a just see, however the museum leaves much to be desired.

The only beautiful thing about this museum is the park that surrounds it... I find it at least unacceptable in a museum situated in a tourist city, that nobody was speaking English and the personnel was very rude. And not only that, but when they realized that we were foreigners they insisted on speaking French making me and my brother feel alienated...
The museum itself was pretty small and all the signs and explanations of the showings were again only in French. I didn't like it. Go and see the building and the surrounding park but in my opinion is not worth it to go inside.

It is a fascinating museum of history in the city, erected following archeological excavations made on the site, which it stands, in the 1960s, for the construction of the Center de la Bourse shopping center. The museum presents the history of Marseille from ancient times to the 18th century. Among other things, you can see the 2nd century AD ship museum, which is considered one of the world's best-kept ships of that era. Apart from the ship, you can see in the museum a variety of Greek ceramics, spectacular mosaics and various architectural works.

Admission is reasonable. Admission is free for those aged 17 and under.

Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 6pm.

How long should you visit? Between one and two hours.

I only got in here once, as I think the entrance fees are rather high. Their collection is a regular one, nothing big, nothing fancy, but I think children should like it very much
