Take the 21 bus from Marseille towards Luminy and get off at the last stop - it's about a 20 min ride from town. Within a short walk (~15 min) you have the option to go to beautiful look out (another 15-20 min away along a ridge) or go down into the Calanque (a steep descent which takes 30 minutes but you can take a gravel road most of the way). Both are great and can be done within 3 hours - bring your bathing suit and plenty of water. Both hikes are suitable for families and no map is necessary (lots of people going up and down on a nice day). There are more hiking options that would require a guide book.

The beach itself was very beautiful and the water was crystal clear, but it is exhausting to get there. After a 45min bus ride from Marseilles center, you had to walk and "climb" for about 40min through the zone which was a national park (If I remember it right). If you have to possibility to go there by ship it would be perfect, otherwise this trip is more suitable for nature-lovers.

In the square, of the port of Marseilles, you catch a boat, it's not a huge boat ,it's almost like a speed boat, its 20 minute ride from the port to the island made notorious from the film The Count of Monte Cristo and the movie The Man in the Iron Mask. It is an island off the coast of Marseilles which you can see which held prisoner's, a lot of Protestant prisoners where held there as well as criminals. you get to experience seeing all the cells, you can take a walk with headphones which tells of the story or you can just explore on your own. magnificent, it looks like a castle, it has a small restaurant, great great little souvenir shop. You could actually do the castle, the Chateau if Prison in an hour. The boats come and go on the hour and it's very inexpensive. On the way back you can see the beautiful coastline and going you can see the beautiful coastline in the city and then you enter the port into the city of Marseille.... it's wonderful, very inexpensive and a fun time.

Magnificent setting but to be carefully avoided: aggressive dogs not on a leash who advance on walkers, barking and showing their teeth, causing us to fall.
The owner, a psychopath who lives in the neighboring shed next to the restaurant, does not accept the remark and insults us by sending us "home".
The virago which must be part of its livestock adds a few layers (I'm not talking about its layers of fat)
Caricatures of Marseillais not even usable as scarecrows.
Absolute zero.

We visited the Calanques in March. We took the 2 hour tour (small circuit) following the advice of other Tripadvisor contributors and we were glad that we did not pay the extra 8 euros each for the longer circuit (approx 3hours). The reason was that we both suffer from mild motion sickness but have never been sick on a boat before. The waves were quite choppy as the boat was speeding ahead to the Calanques submitting its passengers to diving surges and so we felt a bit sick. We did not vomit on the way there so thankfully enjoyed the beautiful scenery and managed to capture it all on camera and video. Unfortunately, on the way back, my husband vomited as did a few other people. The people sitting at the rear of the boat were completely drenched and shrieking from the cold waves spilling into the back of the boat as it navigated the waves. They were also half laughing from the experience.
The calanques are worth the visit for 22 Euros (small circuit) per person as the scenery is very beautiful with aqua marine waters and dramatic limestone formations but if you are prone to motion sickness and not prepared to risk the chance of vomiting, this experience may not be for you.

We parked at this point : Coordinates : 43.213121,5.443048 ( copy this coordinates into google map, or GPS and you will get to this parking point). There are some cars which parked at the initial entry to this place. It is still a long way walk of more than 3km before you reach the start of the hiking. So park at the coordinates given above. Many cars parked there, and I see no issue on security because it is open, and cafes are nearby. The road to this point ( the 2-3km stretch) is very narrow , most of the time, it is 1 car passing. So to take precaution for oncoming vehicle.
I loved this place Calanques de Morgiou. It has the rocky mountain to hike which is great and challenging too. Its beaches is lovely and the water is crystal clear. You literally see the shadow of the boats on the seabed. Some sporadic flowers blooming, and you got people doing different type of activities. People like us , do the simplest, just hike and then go for a dip in the cool waters. There are some who did the rock climbing, awesome stuff.
There is no food or toilet while hiking, so bring water and food enough for your hiking plan. The cafe is located at the parking point. We had some beers and light snack to enjoy this lovely place.
Truly , it is one of the Beautiful places on Earth!
Note : Wear good hiking shoes, because some stones are quite slippery, and if you are hiking with young children, take care of their safety.

The boat tour out of Marseille touring the various calanques in the area is beautiful and can go anywhere from 2 - 4 hours. If you've a free half day take this tour, there are several tour operators in the port, so you have choices. Best to go when the water is rather calm. A great adventure to be had by all ages.v

A few days ago I wrote a critical review of the boat company whom it seemed had cancelled most sailings on a warm peaceful day for no apparent reason. I am writing now because although Tripadvisor will not let me write a follow up straightaway I wish to say how much we enjoyed the shorter two hour version of the tour on Wednesday morning of this week. We arrived perhaps twenty minutes before the start. There were probably thirty others waiting. The boat was big, powerful, sleek, clean, fast and staffed by friendly helpful and affable crew. Although the commentary on the way out and into the Calanques was entirely in French it was possible to follow a good deal of it except some of the speedy and complex historical detail. The coastline is spectacular, the inlets were better than we had hoped. I had a yearning to have been here for one of the longer mid summer tours when it is apparently possible to stop and swim off the boat in the amazingly clear and light blue waters. As it was we had good seats on the way out on the top open deck and then relaxed all the way back on the lower deck at the back, peaceful bit fast as if we were benefiting from our own stylish private cruise along this delightful piece of the Mediterranean. We had a thoroughly good time. €22 per adult standard fare as I recall. Recommended but do be aware of the high risk of weather or other cancelations or you may be in for a good deal of wasted time and disappointment. Also it was worth taking a coat even though the weather was lovely. There was no bar or buffet so had we not just had a good breakfast the sea air would have given us a huge appetite.

A must see! We bought tickets to a tour boat which departed from Cassis, France. We paid 14 euros per ticket. This was one of the most picturesque places that I've visited. Wished we had more time to walk around the area.

I bought an IGN hiking guide from the tourism office, got off the bus at Luminy, and hiked down to Morgiou. From that angle, there was not a lot to see at Morgiou: most docks full of boats with no beach. There was a trail that led along the side of Morgiou, but it was inconvenient (out-and-back, not connected to other trails). When I took a trail up the hill to the west, I got a slightly better view...but it was nothing compared to the sight of Sormiou (the next Calanque over), where the waterfront seems to be more in a "state of nature." Sormiou also has a nice beach and its restaurant was taking customers that day.

Merci

We will be staying in the centre of Marseille (49 Avenue Robert Schuman, 13002 Marseille, France). What is the best way to get to the Park and how much would it cost? Does the Park itself offer any tours including pick up and drop off? Thank you!
Written March 12, 2017
The Calanque National Park does not offer any tours as far as I know. There are three options that you can visit the park:
1) by metro and bus: take metro in the direction Sainte Marguerito Dromel, exti the station Castellane or Rond-point du Prado according to your destionation. There are bus 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 which all go to the park. The cost is the round-way tickets of the metro and bus; single ticket costs 1.60, buy on bus 1.90, 24 hours pass 3.60 euros.
2) by boat: go to Tourist office in Vieux Port (old port) area. There you will find the boat information. The price varies from the tour for 3 calanques or 5 calanques, with meal or without meal. The cheapest one is about 15-18 euros. There are boats going out everyday in summer, but only weekend in winter.
3) by car: rent a car. The cost varies.

Grazie mille.
