The Panier is a nice place to visit by foot even if the place is sometimes bite dirty. The place is a set of old streets and houses. The atmosphere is great, so having a glass and a meal is a good idea. Has it can get crowdy, just jump in a deserted street and enjoy silence and nice architecture.

Im sorry but I just didn't like Marseille at all. I found it unsafe and dirty. The panier was covered in graffiti and rather dull. Not a very nice city I'm afraid!

I liked very much the atmosphere, its small streets still old style. Its little interesting bar for drinking a pernod/ richard watching people go by...near the OldPort and the Cathedral La Major

Second time in Marseille, first time in the picturesque Panier quarter. Located off the "vieux port" the Panier takes you through the old swirling streets of Marseille. By the look of it it is currently being updated for the 2013's City of Culture so there are quite a lot of building sites around. But there are lovely shops to discover... More

If you get the tourist map of Marseille it shows a walking route around the Panier district. There is also a red line on the pavement to show you the way round. Well worth a couple of hours wandering around.

it's located on one side of the Vieux port, and built in pink stone, characterisitic for Marseiile. It's very nice and features a lot of famous attractions, the best one being the Museum of Mediterrranen Archeology.

The area is one of the oldest of Marseille and is becoming up and coming. The buildings are beautiful, there are several cafés and restaurants. It's up on a hill so there are beautiful views of the surroundings.

Maybe we didn't see the best parts but we found the area rather run down and uninteresting. Few shops and sights. One small square close to the Cathedrale Major had excellent restaurants.

The old area of Marseille. Nothing special but worth a visit. Alleys, some nice artisan shops, restaurants and the 'Vielle Charite',

I spent 2 days strolling the streets of the Panier and was enchanted. Lots of nice squares and cafes to stop for a drink to beat the heat. Nice craft stores - reasonably priced.
