This cooking class surpassed our wildest imaginations! Chef Jonathan is a delight and an exceptionally talented teacher. He explained, demonstrated and then had us try it ourselves. He has a very encouraging manner. His style of cooking leaves you with all kinds of tips and tricks to take home. He goes way beyond tiny chop, chop, chopping which is typical in other French classes.
We learned about making two different tapenades, methods of cooking vegetables and fruit, and how to dress and cook fish.
Our finished meal was exquisite! And best of all, I left ready to make this meal when I home. This experience with Jonathan was a highlight of our week in Avignon.

Great time in Les Halles in Avignon. Situation right in the heart of the market, we walked around tasting some of the local delicacies and then spent the rest of the morning cooking a delicious lunch. Lots of good tips and fun ambience

Don’t miss this chance to explore the markets of Les Halles with an excellent chef. Johnathan personalizes the menu to the group then teaches you to prepare your fresh finds. Tapenades, duck breast, fish, farrow risotto, ratatouille, and vinegar glazed strawberries with goat cheese mousse were on the menu today. A wonderful experience; you won’t be disappointed.

We enjoyed the experience and it was a big highlight of our trip. However, we never received the promised recipes even after repeated email requests. I would suggest you take detailed notes during the class.

We booked the “Provence at your Own Leisure” tour through Viator. Through emails, I said we wanted to visit Aix-en-Provence and Cassis. Freddie responded that we would do those in the morning & then we had other options for the rest of the day.
When we were picked up, We talked a bit about the day but Freddie was not very clear about the plan. It seemed like he wasn’t too sure about what we should do. We talked about going to Cassis first and he offered us other choices such as hiking, going to a beach, or taking a boat to Calanques (coves). We weren’t interested in any of those, but we talked about a wine tasting. It seemed like we drove a bit in circles as Freddie & the driver were deciding what we should do first. We stopped to look at one cove and then headed to a winery for a tour & tasting. He wasn’t sure if we would be able to get in, but said we’ll just show up. Luckily they had room for us. It was a nice tour, but nothing special.
Then we went to Cassis to have lunch. He showed us where the seaside cafes were but couldn’t recommend any of them. (Really? After bringing many tours to the town?) We found a place on our own.
When we asked about going to Aix, it became clear that we didn’t have enough time left to make it worthwhile. He suggested we spend a bit more time in Cassis & then go to the top of a cliff. Given that we didn’t have time for anything else, that’s what we did.
Then we headed back to the port. We had to be back on the ship by 5:00, and cut it very close, getting dropped off right at 5:00, which was stressful.
While Freddie did give us history & information along the way, overall we did not feel like the tour was worth the money we paid and we were disappointed that we didn’t get to see Aix, which was important to us. Had Freddie communicated the options & timing better, it might have allowed us to do what we really wanted to do. We got the impression that he hasn’t done this type of tour before. I would not recommend it.

Hello Jodi i'm very sorry about your disappointment of not going to Aix at that time. We appreciate a lot all you're observations and recommendations. Timing has been better setted, prices are being adjusted and partnerships with the domains and restaurants have been established. We are continuously improving this and other of our tours, with great success and general good advises. Let me know when you're coming back and i will include you in our Aix en Provence and Cezanne wine tasting tour for free!! Once again thank you for booking with us and for your generous tips, we appreciate it. Kind regards

My friend Lydia and I spent five days in Marseille. Making this activity/experience was so great and defenitely worth it. We enjoyed the magic world under water, swam through bounds of fishes and couldn't get enough! Our guide Freddy was very nice, attentive and funny. We recommend this activity because it's very special. Thank you Freddy!

If you find yourself in Avignon and would like an unforgettable experience, take this class! Jonathan first takes you through the market, to taste the amazing fresh foods from the region and introducing you like a friend to the locals. You then go back to his family's market Restaurant and he teaches you to cook several truly amazing dishes which you then get to eat for lunch right there. The olive tapenade on fresh cherry tomatoes was an emotional experience! This was my favourite day of the two weeks I spent in France.

This was a second class with Chef Jonathan and once again the food and experience were fun, entertaining, delicious and educational. There were four in our party and, unfortunately 10 more in the class, too many for the small space. But we all could participate and we learned more from the talented chef. Although it took some prompting to receive the recipes, they have now arrived they will be easy to follow to try our hand at the meal. Recommend giving this class a try and enjoy being in the wonderful food hall.
